Every time I turn on my Sager, the brightness is low and I am forced to press Fn+F9 over and over to get it back to the highest setting (which we know is not very bright on these poor screens).

Is there a way to make it so that shutting down my computer, or when using the battery, the brightness stays the same without having to use the Fn key? I have looked at power plans and tried all I could there to no avail.

    Thank you for your help.

You need to go into control panel/ hardware/ power options/ then chooses when to turn off the display , there should be a slider to adjust the brightness, save changes.

Strangely, there is no box for brightness. nor in the Windows Mobility Center...

Yeah, it looks JUST like that, except with no settings for brightness. Both my friend and I bought our sager at the same time and he has those settings while I don't. Perhaps, its my Visa... But what to do...

You need to install all the drivers to the brightness setting appear.

my system does not have the 'dim' or 'brightness' software settings either. I figure the brightness is hardware controlled only. Try updating to the latest KBC revision from the sager update site posted above and see if that solves the low brightness on startup issue.

I believe some of the older models only have hardware brightness control.. thats it, Fn + something combinations. Might explain why...

By the way, what is KBC?

I also wrote sager and got this reply:
"Try to get into the system Bios ( By pressing F2 when you first start up the computer ) with the power ACA cord connected. Adjust the Brighness all the way up ( Fn+F9 ), then press F10 to save and exit.
if the problem persisted, go back and redo this procedure again.
if nothing help, then you might have to send it back for evaluation. "

I did that, and it did not help...

you can contact Sager and ask if they can send you the latest BIOS update... your system might need it for such some fixes.

Keyboard Controller, sometimes called EC/KBC: Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller. It is the part of the BIOS that manages low-level hardware stuff, such as fan speed, system information lights, and keyboard functions such as the Fn+F9 brightness input.

The brightness contol on your model is hardware only (Fn+F8/F9)

However it should still remember the last used setting for each power state (AC/Battery)

I have the equivalent of the NP5793 (M57xRU-U)

I have no problems with it remembering the brightness settings, try updating the bios to this one. Follow zfactors guide in my sig.
