Hey guys I'm really excited to buy a Lotus from Malibal because I've read such good things, thanks to gwilled & Ellatan for guiding me in my previous topic

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/wha...0-returning-my-first-laptop-need-new-one.html

I had bad luck with my first laptop from HP so I'm returning it today. My question is do you think there will be an after X-mas sale? I really want to order it now but could hold off. What I'm going with right now is

    Lotus W150HM
    15.6" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED AUO B156HW01 V.4 95% NTSC Matte Display
    Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM, 6MB L3 Cache, 2.0-2.9GHz
    (8GB) 8192MB, PC3-10660/1333MHz DDR3 - 2 SO-DIMM
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M 2GB GDDR3
    500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300 Hybrid w/ 4GB NAND Flash
    Microsoft® Windows® 7 Home Premium; 64-bit
IC Diamond 7 Thermal Compound, CPU & GPU
    Total
    $1,139.00

Do you guys think this is good? Thanks again for all your help.

How are you finding that on the Malibal site? I can only find the P's....

Looking at that though I would suggest the MALIBAL Lotus P151HM1, better GPU and lower cost.

I may very well be missing something though :)

That's a good laptop! Only thing is I think an i5 would of sufficed for your laptop, but i7 is also fine. I was actually considering buying the same one.

Someone gave me the link to that laptop, but along with Magjua, from the home page I can only seem to find the P series. How do you see the rest of their products? Thankie!

I doubt you need the expensive thermal paste for that GPU. I had one and it was cool as a cucumber. Its a detuned GTX460M so it cant get as hot. I have the TX460M in my Toshiba and its amazingly cool with factory paste job.

    Hello again. :)

I don't think you need the thermal compound upgrade Menasor. The GT 555M isn't exactly a furnace like the 6990M. The Clevos already have pretty good cooling and ventilation to help alleviate any minor heat build-ups that do occur.

I was actually thinking about getting the same model. I only found it through the link on the MALIBAL reps signature here. I would love to wait for a better card with optimus, but since I need a laptop by February, I am not sure I can wait...

As far as your build, if what people say about the stock thermal paste being good, I think it might be work upgrading to the wireless card to Intel® 6230 Advanced-N 802.11A/B/G/N LAN and Bluetooth Card or Bigfoot Networks Killer™ Wireless-N 1102 802.11A/B/G/N LAN Card. This was suggested to me when I asked about a build. Not sure if it really matters, but others may chime in with a stronger opinion.

Please post about how you like it if you do end up getting the laptop, I would be very interested in seeing how you like it!

If you will play online games on wireless connection get the Bigfoot. It is optimized to give you the best performance for gaming. Otherwise I would recommend Intel 6230 over the no-name stock network card.

Personally I would not pay $135 to upgrade to the hybrid drive, just save the money and add $70 to get a real SSD such as Samsung 830 or Crucial M4.

Yikes, you're right tiko, the Momentus XT upgrade price jumped up to $135. It was $85 just a day or two ago. At $85, that is about everyday market value for the 500GB hybrid, once you account for the cost of the standard HDD. At $135, that is a steep, steep jump.

In this case, I would 100% grab the hybrid drive separately at Newegg for their current discounted price of $90. Then get an external enclosure for the included hard drive and pop it in the enclosure. An enclosure would cost about $15-25 for a simple one. That makes the total cost of this sequence $105-115 versus the $135 they are charging for an upgrade. This way you get a hybrid and a portable external HDD for less than the price to upgrade to a single hybrid drive.

With $135 upgrade to the xt you could also stay with the stock hdd and spend that $135 on a 64gb or so ssd and still have extra left over. Since ssd is about the same price range as hdd, it is definitely worth considering.

Guys I'm just a little confused I understand upgrading the wireless card which I will to the Intel because I do use a wireless connection. But for the harddrive are you talking about the HARD DRIVE selection part where it has

    500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300 Hybrid w/ 4GB NAND Flash - $80.00

    or the OPTICAL DRIVE BAY

    500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300 Hybrid w/ 4GB NAND Flash - $135.00

I was going to buy the $80 one in the first one and just get 8X Multi DVD+/-R/RW RAM Dual-Layer Drive in the second. What do you guys suggest I get instead I know you guys are talking about the SSD but or how should I configure my buy?

Generally speaking, if you're getting the hybrid drive it's because you only want a single drive configuration. I'd go with the actual hard drive field being the hybrid and then keeping the optical drive (if you wanted it). There's not much sense getting the hybrid drive in both.

So is it hard to install an SSD? What if I kept it at 320GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA-300 then could I easily change it out for an SSD I buy myself?

If I get that it only has 64GB, I'm confused about the whole hard drive thing.

It is easy to install SSD should take less than 20 minutes and does not require special skills. You can find many videos on Youtube showing you how to do it.

If you plan to get the SSD anyways, I would suggest getting Drive Caddy instead of the DVD so when you buy the SSD, just put it instead of the internal HDD and place the HDD in the caddy.

Do not worry if you are new to this, just look up a video on Youtube and you will see it is pretty simple.

Thank you I saw the videos on youtube looks simple enough. Now my next question is how would I go about installing windows 7 I plan on buying with the laptop from them if they only give me a disc? If you can give me a brief walk through just so I know.

On the P150HM, installing a SSD takes literally two minutes. Unscrew two screws, pop off the panel, and slide the old drive out. Reverse the process and your done. Then it's just doing a standard OS install.

If you don't have an internal optical drive, get a USB DVD drive. They cost $20-40 on Newegg.

Get a hold of the Windows ISO, or use another system to create a bootable USB. You'll only need a 4GB flash drive and a Windows 7 install disk/ISO. Use the tool at this link:

    Microsoft Store Online

It will create the bootable USB drive once you go through the easy wizard. Put that drive in any of the non-USB 3.0 ports (any black port will work) and boot from it. Follow the install wizard to finish :)

It really depends how portable you want to be. The battery life on the optimus model will be about an hour to 1.5 hours longer. Not to mention it's just over a pound lighter. However, if you want to be fairly portable but still have a bit of graphics horsepower, the P150HM is a decent step up. The 560m will be somewhere between 50-100% faster than the 555m. For the price difference, you're getting a slighter heavier laptop with a little less battery life, but up to 2x the graphics performance when gaming.

I upgraded mine.. I think it is a good choice to do so. You can get free calibration files from sager also.
