I am buying a NP6350 and was wondering what your thoughts were on the 2 and 3 year extended warranty options? I know it is an insurance marker but wanted people's thoughts on whether or not they are recommended.

Also, any advice on dead pixel insurance would also be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

It depends how long you plan to keep the notebooks. NP6350 (Clevo W350ETQ) is a middle entry gaming laptop. The unit can handle current video games and possible next 2 more years. If you want to keep it for 3 years, I recommend to purchase the extended warranty.

If you continue to chase the best gaming laptop every year, then I do not recommned it.

Thanks for your insight. You are right, some background is in order.

I am not a gamer at all - I am an amateur photographer and have been using my work Lenovo T400 which is reliable but pretty slow so it is time to get something that will run Lightroom and Photoshop at a nice pace. I think I will have it three or four years provided the machine does not drop dead.

I got the dead pixel insurance because that is something you would see if it went wrong everytime you used your machine. I got a 27 lcd with bad pixels and it was all I could look at so I exchanged it. Feel better having it even if coverage was only first 30 days it is worth it to me.

ALWAYS buy the 2 year warranty. I've had so many laptops break right at the 1 year mark.

Dead pixel insurance is worthless, imo, because of the 30 day no questions asked return policy.

For $60 the dead pixel return policy isn't such a bad idea if you can't be without your laptop for any length of time. If you don't get the LCD insurance then you can reorder with 30 days and return your existing one, but then unless you can/want to afford two laptops on your credit card or cash, you will have to wait for the original to be processed in the returns.

Otherwise 2 year is a good idea, and cheap with the Sager's. I know some manufacturer's offer 2 years out of the gate, but for $79 you can't go wrong. Plus if you end up selling it before the two years it's a good selling point, giving the buyer some reassurance.

On a quick side note: I guess you are in the US, but just in case you are in the EU: There is absolutely no need to buy something like a 2 year warranty as EU law guarantees a 2 year warranty, no matter what (actually Apple just had to pay a fine for not telling its customer that fact and making them pay for a 2 year warranty).

I am in Canada and as you know, Sager is in the US. One of the bigger issues in Canada would be sending the unit back to the US - my reseller (Reflexnotebook.ca) offer the following options that I am trying to weigh:

    Warranty*
Sager 1 Year Limited Parts and Labor Warranty +CA$0.00
Sager 2 Year Limited Parts and Labor Warranty +CA$79.00
Sager 3 Year Limited Parts and Labor Warranty +CA$149.00

Canada Two Way Ground Shipping Coverage Add-on
    1- None
2- Canada two way ground shipping service coverage add-on for Sager 1 Year Limited Parts & Labor Warranty +CA$30.00
3- Canada two way ground shipping service coverage add-on for Sager 2 Year Limited Parts & Labor Warranty +CA$50.00
4- Canada two way ground shipping service coverage add-on for Sager 3 Year Limited Parts & Labor Warranty +CA$70.00

    Reflexnotebook warranty
1 x Reflexnotebook Hassle free warranty. (we handle the whole warranty process for you. We repair all serviceable parts here at our office. if you need to send the laptop back for repair we will cover shipping charges) you don’t need the Canada 2 way coverage +CA$75.00

Many times Sager will allow sending in just a bad part if it can be identified. For example if its a bad stick of RAM you can send that back instead of the whole computer which will help in shipping costs.
