I'm tearing my hair out over a problem with an external display, and I'm wondering if anybody has any advice.

I've got a Sager 5792 (Nvidia 8800m GTX) attached to a Viewsonic VX2025wm LCD via DVI. Both displays run at 1680x1050, and I typically run with the Viewsonic as the primary display. Now, what's happened is that, after returning to my desk after a period away (roughly a day, which isn't unusual), the laptop refuses to acknowledge/detect the Viewsonic...or rather, Windows refuses to detect it, as I can sometimes see the Viewsonic listed in the dropdowns in the Nvidia Control Panel.

What else I've tried (though this is probably non-exhaustive):

My wife has a MacBook Pro that I attached to the Viewsonic with the same cable. This works.

I've attached the Sager to the Viewsonic with a DVI->VGA adapter and a VGA cable. This works.

I've attached the Sager to our Samsung TV with a DVI->VGA adapter and a VGA cable. This works.

I had a similar problem once before, and it was remedied by re-installing the Nvidia drivers. This hasn't worked for me this time.

The Mobility Center "connect external display" doesn't detect the display.

Telling the Nvidia Control Panel that I don't see my display in the list, and to use rigorous display detection doesn't have any effect.

I've read that the TMM under the Event Scheduler has caused some display problems for some people. I had disabled this to no effect. I'm not 100% convinced that I've coupled this with other tests, however.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses. I'm not sure that this is the most appropriate sub-forum here, but I figured that I could start with people that might be more familiar with the particular hardware, and broaden my inquiry from there.

Make sure to disable any Power Options that turn of displays (during idle).

I'm sure we had a TMM issue with one of our notebooks but I think it was causing problems because it kept looking for an external monitor that wasn't there. Will dig the report out tomorrow to see if the details apply to your case or not...

We have actually had an issue with a Viewsonic 20" TFT in our office that we had to have replaced because it wouldn't come out of standby
