I posted this yesterday in the owners lounge, but rather than trying to interject in the different dicussions going on there I figured a thread was in order.

Anyway, I tried to ply my external monitor in with the DVI and found that the screen locked up and wouldn't come un-frozen. If I try to boot Windows with the monitor plugged in, the start-up screen will display on both monitors but it will freeze up after a few seconds (the windows symbol with stop pulsing) and stay that way until I hard reboot.

AT the time I was running the 10.3 drivers, so I did a full uninstall today, complete with driver scrubber, ccleaner, and a manual search for any remaining ati files, and then reinstalled the stock drivers from the disk. No dice, same thing.

Anyone else with the 5870 run into this problem or have any suggestions on a fix?

Ok...just went and tried it with a friend's monitor, no problem, worked right away. Must be something with mine that it doesn't like.

Good news is, I was already planning on selling this one to my roommate and buying a new one (since my laptop has a higher resolution screen than my current one, kind of would defeat the purpose for games).
