Looking for some opinions on setting up my Clevo for an external screen setup, all welcome.
An ongoing shoulder injury means I am getting rid of all my training equipment this leaves me with a nice big space in my house which I intend to fit a large curved desk and leather seat, the mrs has not yet been informed however..![]()
I have been trawling through posts for a week now but have not idea what I need or what screen to get, I am going to order a Razor keyboard and mouse but in terms of monitor/LCD/TFT etc could any of you who have a HM or PEM setup post some pictures for me so I can get an idea of what I should get. I have been reading about curved screens dating back to 2009 but seems they never happened which is a shame that is exactly what I want. I suppose one main screen and my Clevo on a stand would do the job.
A couple of things answered would be really helpful I am a noob in this area:
What contrast, hertz, brightness, gamut etc should I be looking for to make sure I benefit the most? Or is higher the better?
I am currently using the 6990M but looking to upgrade the 7970M through my purchaser shortly what limitation do I have if I want a multi screen setup with the outputs I currently have on my 170HM? Also in terms of a higher resolution through VGA should I be looking to stay at 1080p in terms of performance hit?
I have no budget but do not want to go silly no more than £500/$1000 would be nice unless I go for more than 1 screen. Size wise bigger the better but around 27-32 would be best I think again unless I go for more than one screen.
Lastly I am in the UK so could be limited to the screens available to me.
Thanks all.

Hi have a look at the 27" ips korean models getting very good reviews at a great price there are a few brands but just do a bit research b4 buying
catleap
yamakasi
crossover -
you better put that on hold as I now feel you need to buy a monitor with an ad board do a bit of research b4 buying
-
there are 2 with hdmi which should work with your laptop
Crossover 2720MDP
shimian QH270-IPSMS -
after doing somemore reading you need to know if it is a dual dvi output or single if it is dual it would be able to connect 1 1 monitor but 2 I am unsure maybe someone in the forum knows. I think the p150hm is dual so the p170hm surely is dual

I will check when I get home I am sure I have a displayport and HDMI output I assume the displayport is for DVI? So I could have the laptop and 2 external screens.
I may just consider having one main screen however as I would really only like 3 if it was possible but seems not with a laptop is 27 inch the normal maximum for PC displays? I am struggling to find another which is larger that is not a HDTV. I am going to get this desk
-
I think you can only have two screens total. Either the internal + 1 external, or two external.. let me check
Edit: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/637574-using-two-external-monitors.html -
Although the 6990M does have Eyefinity. -
If you get a large screen or multiple monitors, I fear that desk wont work our so well.. I personally would look at something with more storage and definitely some cable management!
-
It is bigger than it looks in fact it is BIG. It has cable management down the back panel with holes on each level.
I want to get a gaming station but in the UK we are so limited and I have been unable a proper gaming desk. -
Check on Amazon UK.. For the price of that desk I'd break out the sketch pad and build my own for half price lol. That desk is pretty huge now that I saw the dimension and weight. good luck moving that thing!
Someone in the amazon review comments asked how you would sit at it because of the shelf on the bottom. That's a good point. Doesn't really look like it would be the most comfortable thing for long gaming sessions. -
Yeah that was my worry as well looking for something similar its always the way sods law.
I want this but have not been able to find it anywhere. Roccoforte Game Station. -
Ok so I finally went for a single 27 inch HD 3D monitor Samsung great looking thing.
However I only have a DVI-D output on my 170HM. Will a DVI-D to Displayport cable produce 120hz on this monitor? I know it wont do 3D but I can use my M11x for that but can a DVI-D do the job of the refresh rate or do I need something else to make it happen? -
Why can't you use the hdmi?
-
Displayport offers 120hz refresh or 2x60hz for 3D. HDMI offers 60hz and 2x30hz for 3D.
Can anyone confirm if DVI-D can be converted to DP using just a cable? -
Hmm.. I thought 1.4 supported 120hz.. Interesting. No idea about the dvi-d to display port though.
-
If I have the 170HM with the 6990M that has the HDMI 1.4 output can it do 120hz at 1080p?
So Confusing. -
Try shooting your reseller a quick email. They should have a solid answer

I will wack a message on the HM lounge and see if I can get an answer
+1 to you.
