capacitor modification......a little improvement
ive been thinking about adding more capacitors on 580m since first saw its layout
stock spcap 2v 330uf*8>>>>poscap 2v 560uf*4(core) 470uf*4(core*2/mem*2)
add poscap 25v 5.6uf*8(mos)

0.92v
update 285.27 beta
0.87v
0.92v......gpu score already higher than overall score
so the voltage is still a bottom neck, having a hard time finding which resistance can rise voltage these days, bcz theres no way measuring working laptop vga with multimeter..........anyone can interpret chil pwm? i tried vrtn tsen but no luck -
580m really worths $200 more than 485m when extremely overclocking I think.
And what about temp? -
Yea a few questions here ... we need to know ...
Paste ? Stock, IC Diamond, what ?
Ambient room temp ?
Any Additional cooling ?
On flat surface or raised for airflow ?
Also .. rather weak 3dmark 11 score, my 6970s get that kind of score stock with 2630 CPU ... -
some crazzzzzzy vantage scores
-
i use mx3
room 26~27c
no additional cooling, on flat desk
oc benching/gaming all under 80c, running furmark with 0.92v +stock clocks up to 90~92c -
Yeah, man! we're interested in temps, whith such hell of an overclock you should be in an 15C room, probably) anyways +1rep for the excellent job, as always)
I'm so excited for my cards to arrive now, we just need to wait for a proper drivers set to make a final judgment! That's why 3dmark11 had some poor scores...
How did you unlock 0.92v bios? Can you share a profile? Thanks -
So you can just get the vbios of your own dell version 580m and post it there

Mavke is kind and helpful. -
-
Hey, DGDXGDG was 760/1800 the maximum overclock for stock voltage on your cards?
-
the max for my 485m on stock voltage is 705mhz from 575mhz.
-
Good stuff DGDXGDG!!!
Ive posted my bios of the 560m over there to see if he can get anything out of it. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
wow 215mhz over the stock clock you are a serious overclocker
-
dam cant wait for my laptop with gtx 580m to arrive, i wont oc since it will void warranty. but nice scores, do u plan to post a review?
-
Wow, that are some heavy benches especially in vantage!
Congrats!
Can´t wait to see what the GTX 580m will get when new certified drivers coming in!
Right now, for those who are interested, we can compare the results to my GTX 485m SLI overclocked to 580m clocks...: (driver 275.50, I7-970 overclocked to 3.6 GHz)
Your stock clock GTX 580m SLI Vantage: P25832 / GPU: 24452
GTX 485m SLI with 580m clocks: P25658 / GPU: 23978
Your stock clock GTX 580m SLI 3D Mark 11: P5747 / GPU: 5667
GTX 485m SLI with 580m clocks: P6099 / GPU: 6026
The results as screenshots can be found in the X7200 Benchmark Thread. -
i thought the 580 was going to be better ... ?
I am sure driver support will increase it ... but so far, looking like there is no point to the 580m -
The 485m in tirenz post is overclocked, while the 580m is stock.
-
oooooh whew
-
Well, yeah, I thought it would be interesting how both cards are doing with same clocks. I overclocked my GTX 485m´s to GTX 580m stock clocks and til now it is as stable as with stock clocks. Played a lot of stuff, new and old and never any problems with it.
-
17.8k Vantage GPU, on a single 580M?! Holy.... !
-
With my 580m sitting at 760/1800 I can barely get over 16000.
??
At stock levels I was getting 148XX.
What am I doing wrong? I have not disabled physx; how is that done? -
@Tirenz im running stock voltage and my 485m at 695/1390/1800 and it never crashes, unless i run like three games at once.
-
Yes, I am sure I could go higher, too. And I did for some Benches.
But since I am running SLI there are not too many games I can´t run in highest settings without overlocking, so it´s basically for benching only.
But I thought in this case it will be interesting to see how the two cards compare and since it is no heavy overclocking, I just keep it -
too bad the x7200 can't do 3d with sli, one gpu for each eye, it would make sense to do it that way.
-
3dmark vantage latest version will auto disable physx
x7200 480m sli can do 120hz 3d vision with 266.58 -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
Right now, SLI works by having each card do a portion of the screen. With 3D Vision that just means each card is doing more work to generate the full 120hz (60 frames alternating per second to each eye)
-
I thought that each gpu rendered a frame, thats what it says on notebook check. hmm i guess that must be old technology.
-
from where did you see 6990m oc over 1ghz? any bench scores for that?
-
and most hd6870@1000mhz have to overvolt to 1.2+v -
Would it be possible to flash a 6870 vbios on the 6990m like you did with the 580m through Mavke?
-
^ Thats a very good idea to turn a card into a brick.
-
The 6990M is a 6870 with lower clocks and voltage, with higher core clocks it could come close, memory is a lot lower though. -
vantage at 760/1800 and 0.87v is too unstable on the P170HM but up the memory to 1944 and (except for medium tearing with New Calico) can do P16999 (+200 gpu) giggidy -
but see
6990m 1.1v~~~~6870 1.17v
580m 0.87v/0.92v~~~~560ti 1.00v -
sry i misread the meaning of that vantage screenshot of the 6870, you were suggesting to match your 0.92v 835 core score, a 6990m would have to get its core >1000
-
Did you already flash your GTX580M? If so, could you tell what and how you did it. For two days I get tired of nvflash 5.100.0.1 and I cant do it. -
read my post in the gtx 580m thread!
-
OK, that's my limit (with 0.92V).
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2920XM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx score: P4505 3DMarks -
wow thats amazing, and if you use the nvidia inspector and unlock the memory setting it will definantly go higher than 1800. in another thread a forum member was wondering what the maximum memory in your unit could go up to. also thats higher than the stock gtx 560ti clocks, which the card is based on, and thats really really awesome!
-
Raising the memory frequency affects only the result of 3DMark Vanantage http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3388117 vs NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2920XM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx score: P18138 3DMarks, but little change for the 3DMark11 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2920XM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx score: P4507 3DMarks. Only increasing the core clock gives better results in 3DMark11 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2920XM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx score: P4560 3DMarks.

If I was to buy a laptop with the 580m gtx how do I go about raising the voltage?
-
Open your bios file in nibitor - increase voltage and save it on a bootable usb stick - boot with bootable usb stick - backup original bios with nvflash - flash modified bios with nvflash.
I suggest you read up on google.
Nibitor doesnt support GTX 580M, yet. -
Look here: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 570 560 460 ATI Radeon HD 6970 6950 6870 5970 :: MVKTech :: On the Edge of Technology - Re:tweak GTX580M BIOS voltage - MVKTech Support Forums
Be careful, P150HM have too weak power supply for Overvolting. -
DGDXGDG, Can you post a FurMark test(20 minutes) with all settings maxed out and with the latest drivers.
-
Great job guys, insane scores!
What's the program you guys use, I've tried MSI Afterbuner with mixed results. -
I use Nvidia Inspector.
-
My 485m sli can overclock to 750/1700 and completely run all of those 3dmark's programs, but can not barely hold 1 min running furmark. The only oc I can get and being completely stable runing furmark is 620/1600. -
here furmark 1.8.2
-
u disabled sli?
82c max? that seems quite higher than 485m...
Shouldn't 580m be more cooler than 485m? -
Can you do one with SLi enabled, thanks.
