So I currently have the X7800 processor right now and I'm wondering what advantages/disadvantages that it has compared to the T9300. I'm not going to compare it to the T9500 because that price is just ridiculous.
From what I see, the only thing that the X7800 wins in is the 2.6ghz and it's not overclockable on these Sagers.
The T9300 is newer technology and runs at lower voltage. It also has a 6MB L2 cache compared to the X7800's 4MB L2 cache.
Will this make the T9300 faster than the X7800 and run cooler?
Which one would you guys choose and why?
What would get me the best performance?

It depends, if ur planning on Oc'ing, the X7800 is probably better right?
-
I heard that the motherboards won't let you OC.

Up until now there really wasn't much of an advantage to the X processors because they could not be overclocked, but that is about to change.

And thank Sager/Clevo for us also!! Will this be with all clevo notebooks or can you not talk about it more?

Well, all Clevo notebooks covers a lot of models so I would have to say no, not all of them.

Anyone who has been following the posts about X processors should be aware that there are quite a few Clevo M570RU vendors selling the mobile X series CPU, while Sager doesn’t.
However everyone that has followed the forum threads should be aware that the reason behind this is the inability to take advantage of the unlocked mobile series CPU that you really have paid a premium for. Why pay the extra money...unless you can overclock it?
Sager tells us that a new M570RU with a new bottom case that will allow for the necessary thermal solution to handle an overclocked X processor is in the works. While there is still no Firm ETA or details of when and how it will be launched, be assured that Sager is working with Clevo very closely to get the project completed,. Typical of Sager and Clevo, they will not release it until a proper thermal solution is in place that will allow for a long life of intense use. -
That is good news, hopefully it will come true....and the bottom case can be seperate ordered.

Same (X7900).
Actually, now that i think about it it seems that there is an option in the BIOS i noticed about overclocking. And it seems to give me the option to adjust the multiplyer (this is ona new Clevo with an 8800). However i dared not toy with it. I didnt want the X7900 because it could overclock, i wanted it because it ran at 2.8Ghz =) -

Ok just checked it out.
Its in Advanced Chipset options in the BIOS.
CPU Overclock : [Disabled]
I have 2 other options, "over 1x" and "over 2x". I checked the manual but i cant seem to find any information on the BIOS for some reason. So im not sure what the hell those settings do. I'm not sure i want to risk it to find out... -

If i had such a overclockable BIOS i will have a try.
And RobHague which BIOS Version do you have, 1.00.07 or ? -
Yeah 1.00.07E i think it is.
-
wow, this E would be interesting, i have only a 1.00.07, btw. what is your BIOS date? Mein is 11/23/07. And when i start the NB, i see 2 BIOS versions, one ist the 1.00.07 and another is still 1.00.04 for the KB, is this normal?

Check out my thread pretty interesting results. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3019184#post3019184 T9300 equal to X7800 OC'ed to 3.0ghz.

Care to explain how your laptop running vista gets a higher score with a 8800GTS than all of these NP579X's with 8800GTXs?
EDIT: nvm, ur overclocked. -

this is you at the end?
very weird that a penryn can kill a merom like that, especially with the 500 mhz increase for the 65nm -
-
This supports all the FUD that I have found online about how the T9300 "isn't a significant" upgrade.
Extreme X7800 vs Penryn T9300?
