Based only on performance of these two cards... how much of an FPS increase are we talking between 9800M GT and GTX? Assume that everything else (RAM, processor...) are maxed or not taken into account in the comparison and that the most graphic intensive of today's games are considered. The only reason I would move up to an NP5796 from an NP8860 is the graphics power, so I'm trying to dial down my choices and these are the last two. I don't want to take a look at the NP9262 because it just looks too big to be a true "laptop" and not powerful enough to warrant the cost vs. just getting a desktop =/.
Thanks in advance and sorry if there's already a post about this.
P.S. I'd probably get 1680 x 1050 resolution in both because it's crisp enough for me and will make games a bit smoother, which is what I'm looking for.

No ones know about the 9800M GTX yet. <-------God how many time do I need to repeat it?
-
20-25% speed, so probably if your games run ar 25-30fps, it will run at 30-35 fps MAX.

Haha, sorry Nirvana, I thought there'd be something about this already. Eleron, you mean there's probably a 5 FPS increase between the two? I honestly didn't know that the 9800M GTX wasn't tested yet, but if that's the case, I don't think 5 FPS warrants the upgrade. Thanks.

Hi,
if we are talking about Crysis (as most demanding for now) for example, I assume it will be around 2-3 fps max. I checked on various sites (Guru3D etc.) performance of 8800 GT and 9800 GT with 3GHz Core 2 Duo and in 1280*1024 all very high the built in benchmark is giving 21 fps, if Quad CPU then 22fps. Mine 8800M GTX is giving 19.1 with same settings and OC to 600 1500 900 (clocks of 8800 GT or 9800 GT), so if you overclock the upcoming 9800M GTX which will have same number of SP (112 as 8800GT and 9800GT) to 600 1500 900 I think the result will be the same or almost (21-22 fps). Correct me if I'm wrong. -
Until the 9800M GTX will be out, there's no way to say for sure.
But the fact is...the 9800M GTX will kill the 9800M GT, it will have 128SPs, 1 Gb of memory, and hopefully, but this is just my guess, higher frequencies.
So 5 fps is a minimum increase actually.
I expect this card to perform quite well, although the price tag of 365$ is not justified.
I can almost get a desktop 8800 GTX for that money... -

I wish you are right eleron, because if the performance will increase by 5 fps comparing to 8800M GTX then we are talking about 24 fps in Crysis benchmark 1280*1024 all v.high and performance of 8800 GTX or 9800GTX desktop cards. That would be great and I would buy it even for 450$. I think it's confirmed that it will have 112 SP so the clocks must be something like 675 1650 1000 to match 8800 GTX. I don't think it's possible right now, mayby I'm wrong.

He said 20-25% increase in performance. That doesn't always equal 5 FPS more
-
Yeah! right dude. -
6 more days to go until the release!!! \o/ Then all doubts will hopefully be dissipated
and the journey to the sli can begin

Guys the ETA for the 9800GTX on Sagers website is the end of August so there is still some time to wait.
-
well, in theory 22nd of Aug can easily be classified as "end of month"
