I've just been informed by xotic PC that the Intel® P9600 2.66Ghz cpus are on back order with intel, and they have no idea when they are getting more in stock.
Keep that in mind on whatever builds you are deciding on.
-
How long ago did you order?
I placed an order three days ago, and I have yet to be informed of this yet. Now im worried about a delay. -
same, Sunday night / monday morning at 1am.
There was another guy on the xotic pc forums that ordered before me that got the same message. -
-
Sager 8662
-
Yup, sager np8662 as well.
-
You guys could go with the Q9000...I'm sure it's slower but, it's new technology for 5.00 more...
-
i've ordered mine in 17th of May with P9600, now its in payment pending. i haven't received any mail or something about delay. and actuly i dont know if the payment pending is last phase ( my 1st order online ). so if it the last phase i think my order wont be delayed
so is it the last phase ? -
If i had to guess...I would say no...It's probably where they are just now charging your credit card...have you called them?...Because when i ordered the notebook in my signature...My check card wouldn't let it go through because it was such a high amount...I called PCtorque and they told me that i would have to call my bank and get the limit increased so they could push it through...But, I don't know about XoticPC...Sager won't charge your card until the day it's getting built/shipped "i think"...This is my first online order too..
-
i've payed by bank wire transfer yesterday and it my take around 3 days to process.
but i think i will upgrade to 2.93 if the 2.66 is out from them ( from XoticPC ) -
Well then I'm glad I ordered mine when I did. I got it today!
-
-
Perhaps Intel is transitioning to the P9700 already.
-
The P9600 is the worst choice among the processors offered anyway.
Why? Is it really worth $165 more than the 2.53Ghz P8700? Skip the L2 cache lecture, because a 5% increase in clock speed and 3MB of extra cache will never be worth the $165. -
I picked it for resale value >.>
When I buy the quad, I can rest assured I'll be able to get rid of the P9600 quickly for at least $200. There's plenty of people with smaller laptops using 2-2.26ghz 25 watt cpus that feel they want more speed but don't want the heat -
I won't pay 385 USD for the P9600 either. That is why we have to thank those Chinese ebay sellers with their ES versions for providing us with a more decent solution.
Keep in mind that this what you get when you don't support your local AMD reseller- > and Intel rip-off monopoly. Let's hope things will change.
-
When you guys buy stuff from China, make sure it's coming from Hong Kong(they have copyright laws i believe) and not other places like Shanghai...I'm in Shanghai right now and I see this kind of thing everytime I walk out the door to go have a look around the town...And believe me 90% of it is Fake
-
I don't really think they are so advanced to fake CPUs. You would need a whole facility to get 45nm CPUs.
-
Don't doubt their ability...Trust me...Mostly everything is made in China anyways,So it's not hard for that technology to get out the doors sometimes and end up in a backstreet alley being assembled with junk materials that look the same as the real thing, and performs the same for a few weeks...Ya i believe it would be hard to copy processors but, I'm sure there is a guy working on that as we speek...I bought a nice louie vatone watch looked like it was real and had a decent price on it...Quit working before i got back to the apartment 45 minutes drive away....I'm not saying all is fake but there is always a chance...Just looking out for the guys on the boards

-
I just called into xoticpc and apparently I just made it in before the backorder, so I will be receiving mine.
I'm glad really, thats the processor that I wanted from the get go. -

Don't forget that every ES CPU someone sells is making money out of you for nothing, you might pay less but they have 100% profit margin
Problem is that at the moment AMD just can't keep up with Intel performance wise so it's almost a monopoly of their own doing, though that can be argued both ways of course! -
Anyway, you are right, because AMD is out of the market Intel has monoply and struggles to keep it. It will take some time until AMD will catch up, I heard they are already recovering on the desktop segment. -

None of the Engineering Sample CPUs Intel have sent us have been faulty. Think one Core 2 Quad had a stuck sensor, can't say whether if someone buys one it will missbehave though as you can never tell how it's been used. Most ES CPUs are pummled by the guys (like me!) who recieve them to see what they are capable of.
Something else to bear in mind is that ES CPUs are the first of the first batch and they are sometimes not as good as the final production ones. For example the 940 sample I had didn't clock as well as the retail versions. Similarly 6 months down the line you might have a better stepping e.g. the i7 920 D0 or the 950 suddenly appears.
My point was that part of the Intel Reseller agreement is that you are not allowed to sell/profit from ES CPUs. Everyone (in the reseller/SI channel) knows that and I have to disagree with you on the profit point - either them or Intel. Point is that these people make $hundreds out of selling CPUs that they obtain for free so as far as I'm concerned it's the same as profiting from theft. Intel aren't loosing money from it but someone's sat at home laughing at the person who just gave them loads of cash for nothing. Just my personal opinion.
Not sure if AMD are recovering on the desktop front sales wise but they still aren't close performance wise. Competition would be nice but atm there is an option of cheaper vs more expensive and you get the performance you pay for. -
ugh... i just got the message today about the p9600.
what's the best alternative to go with now? the t9550 or the q9000? or should i just save the money and go with the stock? -
The 9550's are out of stock now too, I've just been informed by xotic pc.
Now I either get a slower processor, or wait a minimum of 5 days for new stock. -
I think the P8800, P9700, and T9900 are about to come through the pipeline.
-
However, bare in mind that prices for the current CPUs will remain much the same with just just few exceptions. These new entrants will be more expensive than the current high-end offerings like P8700 / P9600 / T9800. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Actually they will not be more expensive, they will be the same price as the ones they are replacing but will have higher clock speeds.
-
I musta literally just squeaked in, I ordered Monday morning as others have, and mine was shipped today.
Guess that was the tipping point.
Best of luck to all those that are waiting. -
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The only exception is the P8600 will go away and the P8700 will drop down to the P8600 price, but then the P8800 will slide into the P8700 price slot and so on up the line.
Quads will not have any changes. -
Aw, you're kidding. You mean if I'd waited a couple more weeks I could have gotten a P8700 for the same price of the P8600?
Oh well, not like it'll make much of a performance difference anyway. -
Another update:
Xotic Pc does not expect to get a new shipment until June 1st. -
That bums me out, I ordered mine Sunday night, but there was a "-" somewhere in my address so there was a billing issue that I had to clear up monday morning, apparently this error is the difference between me getting the laptop this week and 3 weeks from now =( -

^--^
There is always a struggle of timing, and we try to inform customers of new technology or price adjustments that are just around the corner. Most customers really appreciate that because they would rather wait a week or two to get the better technology or price. -

At this time we have been informed approximately June 1 the new processors will be ready. As Paladin44 states the P8600 will be gone and the P8700 will be the default processor. Most will get a higher speed CPU for the same price.
In the end this will all result in an approximate 5 business day delay.
-
^^^Free and Better performance...I think that justifies 5 more days
-
thanks justin. it's great to hear directly from a reseller!
if there are any more updates to this issue, please let us know!
FYI Intel® P9600 2.66Ghz on back order!
