Did anyone of you get a copy of Fallout 3 yet?

Im interested to know what settings you can run the game @ 60 fps.

    Im ordering my m860tu tomorrow:

p8600 - 9800gts. Hope i can play this in high settings at 60 fps.

    - These kind of threads belong in the gaming section...
    - Ask 9800M GTS & P8600 owners how well it performs ;) (that would include m860tu owners)

Orluff, what driver ae you using, and what's your 3dMark06 score? Can you post a screenshot?

I've been trying to find someone with the same processor as me, but with the GTS. Let's compare notes!

Fallout 3 runs at 60 fps on the high settings. Great game, was a longgggg wait but worth it. ;)

All the data I've seen shows a very minimal gain going from the GTS to the GT if you can even get the GT at this point but if you can and got the money, why not? :)

Money is always the problem right ;) But yeah i can get it. I'm just afraid that p8600 and 9800gts wont be able to perform very good

If you overclock your mobile videocards you go for the 9800GT. If you don't, save your $80.00 or whatever it is, cause $80 isn't worth 1fps.

You should probably go for the P9500 and 9800GTS.

Sounds like Eivind either has a max resolution of 1440x or his drivers aren't installed (correctly).

If i had the money i would :( But what is better?

    p8600 9800gt
    p9500 9800gts

and would either be "much" better than what im probably getting:

    p8600 9800gts?

P9500 and 9800GTS, for sure. The 6mb cache on the better CPU outweighs the very slight (5-10%? usually 1-3 fps) increases from the gpu. It's not that one cpu is much faster than the other, it's that one has twice the cache.

Eh, well, I have a P8400 and regret not getting a 6mb cache CPU, as the system runs *very* cool, and the price difference for the better cpu is about what the price difference is between the two gpus. Playing video and doing anything but gaming will perform a lot faster with a P9500 from what I've read, and I get video lag sometimes with multiple firefox windows + videos open.

If you want a compromise, get the T9400 and the GT. Save a few on the processor, spend a few on the graphics card.
I feel the same way, but fortunately, there's a whole new set of 6mb cache Montevina chips coming out in the next few months that I'm looking forward to choosing from.

    T9800 - 2.93Ghz 35w
    T9550 - 2.66Ghz 35w
    P9600 - 2.66Ghz 25w

Even better, these chips will help a lot with pushing down the prices of the T9400, P9500, T9600, and X9100. I've personally got my eye on that beastly T9800, but the price will probably be crazy expensive.

Thinking about it, im not sure it got installed correctly. I followed the installguide, but got error saying it wasnt installed correctly or something. It took forever to install and at the end it said timed out. When i used vlc it lagged every 20 second or something.

How did other people install 140.43?

Im running on High settings, with all advanced setting maxed out, except for the view distances (put on high, left view distances and maxxed out all other advanced settings).
Im on 1400 X 900 resolution, 4XAA and 10XAF, vertical sync on. The game runs awsome. In open world, i get 42-60 fps, usually 50+. In buildings/caves etc i get 60 all the time. However in the vault automated target system my fps drop to 18ish. Anyone else experiencing this.
Im running this game on my laptop, it has the 9800m GT

next time i play it im going to up the resolution to 1650, seeing as there is tons of leeway yet @ 1400X900.

    Hey mate,
My download of fraps just completed, so once im out of class today i will give you some benchies. I'll list my specs with them so you will know the comparison.
If I can say one thing though, the P9500 is awesome. I never have had any bottlenecks caused by it and I have also discovered something cool. What I do to run my games is I rip the CD image to my HD and use DaemonTools to run it. Since the processor is able to deal with the information without having to read it from the dvd drive, I have wayyyy faster load times. This probably works better on some games than others, but I have found it to be quite effective. The downside is that it uses a ton of hardrive space.
So keep that in mind too if you are a serious gamer because it will effect what prossesor and hd you should choose.
Sorry to banter just there. Ill get those benchies up soon.

ultra high settings, everything totally maxed out, 1680x1050, no AA/AF. 45 FPS outside, never ever ever dipping below 35.

This will only affect games that load data off the disc in game, which most don't. Most games install all their data to the HDD for exactly this reason. An easy way to check is to see if a no cd crack is available (I'm not saying use one, but if one is available, then all the data must be on the hdd)

Absolutely yes; they're of the same line of Montevina processors, so they interchange with 100% compatibility. I already opened mine up a few times, just to learn the landscape. It's really as easy as switching them out (of course there's a few steps in-between).

Yeah I have the 160GB 5400 too, but I'm waiting for the new 500gb, 7200.4 Seagate Momentus to come out.

I'll probably wait on the processor until the 35w, 3.06Ghz T9900 comes out next year, because prices on the rest will probably drop again.

For anyone having any sort of crashes with this game:

Go to your fallout 3 directory, make a desktop shortcut directly to Fallout 3.exe

Set compatibility mode to winxp SP2

    Fixed all my crash issues.

Doesn't work with the normal shortcut, since that one will just do it for the launcher, not the actual game.

Oh nice. I don't particularly want to upgrade, unless I can sell my P8400, but will if it's a decent price and it's a significant upgrade (still unsure about this).

Robvyya: Get a cooler, like the zalman nc2000? Mine keeps it extremely cool (bit too cool, as it's winter). The cpu's easy to switch in and out.

Well I've been told that our 160GB Fujitsu drive is older and tends to run on the warm side anyway; you can see from m860tu owners who have the 320GB 7200RPM HDDs that their temps are no hotter than ours, so hopefully the new technology in the next Seagate can stay just as cool.
