I am about to pull the trigger on one of these but I wanted to ask if anyone knows how much noise the GPU fan makes under full load?

If no first hand experience... a best 'guesstimate' would also be helpful. Thanks.

my fan never maxes out under load, and its not too loud. i can tell the difference, between when its on and when its not, but it makes less noise than if you are typing on the keyboard.

I was surprised about the fan "noise". It makes less noise than I expected. How loud the fan with 6990m is, up to now nobody can report anything for sure.

Im running my AMD Radeon HD 6970m with a hefty OC and the fan noise is acceptable.
    850 MHz core & 1100 MHz memory.
It did pass the 1080p furmark benchmark and 3DMark 11.

This is encouraging. I am replacing a Gateway P-6831FX. When revved up... the fan noise irritates my wife if she is watching TV in the same room.

Coming from nothing but Nvidia, and forgive me if this is discussed elsewhere, but can anyone chime in on what the driver support from AMD is like?

I mean a candid and objective (impartial) opinion? Thanks for helping out a newbie.

It's nothing like nVidia. You just go to AMD.com and download the driver - no need for modified INFs. AMD Radeon HD 6000M Series Graphics

Some folks do offer tweaks if you like. You can use Catalyst Control Panel to tweak clock speeds, voltage, etc. MSI and EVGA offer tweaking programs too.
