Hey all, I just received my m860tu today and wow is this laptop amazing!. After a couple of hours of getting used to this beast, I noticed that there was no sound coming from the power brick since I've heard that there is a noticeable sound that comes from it. So I picked it up and it is pretty hot to the touch and I looked inside and notice that the fan wasn't spinning. So I'm guessing this isn't normal? Any suggestions? Also i noticed that my HDD, the 200GB 7200rpm Toshiba is at a steady 54c according to HWmonitor. I hope that's normal :/ Any suggestions would be great Thanks!

If there is a fan, it usually will kick in after reaching a particular temp.

if it does not spin up even after seriously usage (gaming, benchmarking, etc..) then I would contact the vendor about it.

as for HDD temps, under 60C is good. :)

    HD sounds fine.
Power brick might be a problem. I'd keep that thing well ventilated just in case. I think I've read that the fan in the power brick should be humming along all the time.

in Brendhan's mini-review he says there is no fan in the powerbrick and I've heard a couple others say there is...so are there different versions of the powerbrick?

The fan only comes on when I'm gaming. Otherwise, it's silent.

I can actually see the fan inside of the brick and I sprayed some compressed air in it and the fan spun and then it came to a complete stop so I'm not sure if its supposed to be on or not...I mean the brick is pretty hot so I would assume the fan should kick in...

I think the fan should be fine just wait a few days. It is a very simple component, I would be surprised if it is defect.

Brendhan has recanted his statement about the power-brick not having a fan.

heating issues, a loose keyboard now a possible broken fan!

I think they rushed this out to meet demand too quickly. What happened to the quality dpt?

And why hasn't the official review come out??

I'm a little concerned by Q&A to be honest.

Is Sager really thousands of these systems going out?

I would so not say that its that serious.

They shipped out thousands of these notebooks every week, so those that are the unfortunate statistic of a defective minor component is realistic... but easily remedied... with a cross-ship of the same item.

Its not as bad as a poorly designed cooling system that was not fully tested while in development and cannot be fixed.. rather have a workaround by updating the firmware for the fans to spin even faster... ;)

Judging from other reports i'd say the fan probably isn't broken because people have been saying that the fan in the powerbrick only comes on when they start playing some of the more recent games. So unless csL has done this it is not possible to know.

But that would indicate the brick fan has quite a high temperature threshold, unless csL is very heat intolerant, which also leads to concerns...

Then again I guess it's noise versus heat and I would like to be confident in thinking that Clevo chose an appropriate middle-ground.

Alternatively, couldn't the brick fan have different speed settings for different temperatures like the CPU fan? I don't think that would be too difficult to fit into a brick. In that case the fact it's not spinning at all suggests there's something wrong with the fan. Plus, Brendhan reported a faint whining noise from the PSU at low load so I would think it spins all the time..

I know you're referring to Nvidia here. I think that even current notebook video cards might be affected. When is the truth coming out about this fiasco?

Also, I guess too many people are reporting issues that might not even be an issue. That's why we need an official review to determine exactly what this notebook is capable and not capable of doing.

Maybe Clevo should have just stuck to the video card the Asus G50V-A1 is using so it would not need a large blow fan on the inside and have a smaller fan less brick. And stuck this video card on the 17' model.

I'm still interested in this Clevo, I'm just waiting on the review.

i think he was refering to a particular laptop that must not be named here as just the mention of it creates a link

Read the User Manual, the Fn+F4 is a Sleep Toggle.

Why would a sleep toggle try to boot windows back up on an external? kinda weird...

I think fn+F4 on most laptops help to re-activate your screen, it is useful when you hook your laptop up with HDTV or a projector, when you press fn+F4 it will help you to switch screen.

Edit: Ops guess I am wrong never mind me.

My guess is it tried to send the external drive to sleep mode and failed.

Hows the boot up in BIOS?I am glad it's fixed.

As of fan in the brick it might be coming up only when it's hot.
