I've been taking my new 5796 (I assume that I have latest bios) to the library and I've been getting a lot of complaints about the noise generated by the fans. After doing a search here, I found the following info:

"For those who are annoyed at the fan cycling up to full speed every minute or so when doing light work, please use the new Fn+3 mid range control because then it will only cycle up when the temperature reaches the present high throttle point instead of every minute or so no matter what you are doing."

Pressing Fn+1 does indeed seem to turn the fan up to full speed, but when I press Fn+3, the fans still seem to cycle up to full speed while doing light work, (word processing) every minute our so.

There are no on screen indications of of whether the Fn+3 is working or now, so I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing anything similar?

So you`re saying that they removed med speed?
Is quiet mode on by any chance? cause I think that one has priority...
Try it without the quiet mode or whatever it`s called and see then.

Sorry, to clarify, when I press Fn-3 there is no difference in fan speed our sound, and my fans throttle every other minute. Silent mode is also set to normal.

    Normal, as in disabled?
If it`s disabled, and Fn+3 does not force med mode, maybe it was not intended with this latest update.
I would email Sager tech support...

The TU does not have med fan control like the RU did.

except the fact that silent mode doesn't really work. This is my last post in a long while. Nice to see familiar faces? (avatars?)

Agreed. The 5796 has no Fn+3 Med setting. Silent mode is quiet, but it very often spins up the fans which can be quite annoying.

As far as emailing Sager, I've send them four emails for different problems, and have not received a single response.
