I have an older Clevo model (Eurocom 8790P to be exact)...with a 3.06 P4 and an ATI 9700 (I know, I know...but I'm broke right now). I'm planning to upgrade later this year but until then I need some suggestions about quieting the fans which sound like an airplane about to take off about a minute after boot up. And it doesn't stop until I shutdown. Would applying Arctic Silver help? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the link to that article! I'm going to start with the canned air option this evening---I'm sure that would help. Yeah, I'm not real hopeful about drastic cooling results on a P4 cpu...but any way to lessen the noise factor will be a welcomed difference. :)

Was it always this noisy? If not, then cleaning it as described will probably get it back to where it was originally.

Yes, Arctic Silver 5 will also help the cooling system work more efficiently so that the fans don't have to come on as often, spin up as high, or stay on as long.
