I have an older Clevo model (Eurocom 8790P to be exact)...with a 3.06 P4 and an ATI 9700 (I know, I know...but I'm broke right now). I'm planning to upgrade later this year but until then I need some suggestions about quieting the fans which sound like an airplane about to take off about a minute after boot up. And it doesn't stop until I shutdown. Would applying Arctic Silver help? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the link to that article! I'm going to start with the canned air option this evening---I'm sure that would help. Yeah, I'm not real hopeful about drastic cooling results on a P4 cpu...but any way to lessen the noise factor will be a welcomed difference.

Was it always this noisy? If not, then cleaning it as described will probably get it back to where it was originally.
Yes, Arctic Silver 5 will also help the cooling system work more efficiently so that the fans don't have to come on as often, spin up as high, or stay on as long.
Fan noise is driving me crazy!
