Hi guys,
I apologize if this has been covered before, but I searched and couldn't find anything. I have an NP5793 on the way, which I'm very excited aboutbut I hear complaints about the fan noise.
I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the actual fan assembly with one that uses blades engineered to make less noise? Or maybe even reduced mechanical noise from the fans spinning? Is this possible, and if so how difficult is it to do? Is it expensive?![]()
Thanks

I'm not sure, but be very carefull you do not void any warranty the unit may have
-
It would be possible, but you'd need to get the fans specially made as they are non standard size/cowling/etc, so it would be very expensive (i think someone was throwing around a figure of about $350)
-
You could buy a replacement-fan and modify it with a ~5-Ohm resistor. Made my book more silent.
-
That will also reduce the cooling power though..

Hmmm... Sounds like I might have to bite the bullet on this one. I don't necessarily want to sacrifice the fans cooling ability to reduce noise, I just figured maybe there's some aftermarket fans that have quieter bearings, blades, etc. that are still as efficient.

EBM Papst are able to design custom fans on request. Just send in the old fans, tell them to make the fans quieter, and pay them 300-400$. Case solved
-
and you're without a laptop for a few weeks

I don`t think it`s that easy. I know it can be done, heck my XPS1730 has super quiet fans for a notebook, and apparently, even the Whitebook is silent..
The 5793 or M57XU is just doomed with those nasty *** fans that are noisy.
A bit of dedication from Clevo and a secondary hdd bay would make this laptop the perfect 17 inch non SLI sollution... -
What about chabinging the internal fans with better ones. Somebody mentioned something like that. I wish I knew the place where he bought them I would do it imediatly. Changing the internal fans seem to be quite simple.

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
I think K-Tron has done that.

When i got my 5793 it had a defective gpu fan on it. The fan made a very high pitched sound. I called sager and they sent me a new fan so i can change it out myself. It did not seem they were concerned about the average customer working on the laptop themselves.
It seemed easy at first to switch out the fan, but to change the fan you have to remove the heat sink from the gpu, then remove the gpu itself (you dont have to remove it completely just lift it up enough to slide out the fan).
Its a little bit of work but pretty easyily done if you are not scared to open up your machine and poke around in it.
The new fan i have is extemely quiet. I really dont hear it at all. The loud one is the cpu fan. Theres nothing wrong with mine but im debating asking for a new one just to see if it will be as quiet as the new gpu fan i got. -
In fact you don't need to remove the gpu heatsink as you can remove the gpu itself (including heatsink) without doing so. This means that you don't need new thermal paste
-
So , bck2826, are you saying that the new GPU fan you got is almost silent , or in any point, much less noisier?
Hmm..weird indeed. -

I just got a new stock fan, not sure of the type. Its whichever one sager uses. Yea its pretty quiet now the only fan i ever really hear is the cpu fan.
When i took off the heat sink i never changed the thermal paste. Is this bad? i was alittle nervous about not changing it, but i didnt have and paste cleaner. I have been monitoring the temps and it seems to be runing fine. It idles at 35-40 and games around 55-60. -
Fan replacement to reduce noise??
