How is the warrenty through xoticpc? anyone have any experience with it... should I opt for the 3 year parts and service warranty? I owned a Alienware 7700 and I hope the service is better then them.

Also if If I buy the computer today will it come with the updated bios for the loud fans?

    Thanks for all responses

If you want to keep the laptop for a long time then chose the 3 year warranty (either the one from XoticPC or the one from Sager).
If you will buy it today it will ship with the latest firmware & BIOS.

The service will be better without a doubt. Updated bios for loud fans? there is no such thing! :D
There is only a keyboard firmware that updates the fan speed according to temperatures and keeps them from ramping up and down.
Anything else you want to ask, just shoot.
Nice choice by the way :)

Honestly, I don't think the fans on the 5793 are horribly loud anyway! I've had desk tops much much louder! I'm happy with mine

Well I know the fans on my alienware 7700 got pretty loud... and I know that computer was built on a clevo chasis. Anyone know if the 5793's fans are louder then the alienwares old 7700 model?

with the new firmware, you can adjust the fans with 3 modes, but i tend to leave it on auto, you can turn it on full blast which is loud, but other than that it's ok... but the cooling is pretty good on this machine, im getting really nice cpu/gpu temps...

Thanks for all the input guys. I also know that the M860TU is comming out within the next few months. I know this is a totally different class of computer. 15inch for 17inch. But do you think that the new platform is something worth waiting for? Is there anything comming out in the next couple months that would be worth waiting for? I know the computer industry is constantly advancing I just don't want something to come out next month that I kick myself for.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread but I have a question about the 5793 and thought it'd be better not to start a whole new thread.

I'm curious does it have an extra HDD slot? Or is it just the one? I noticed on xoticpc it only allows me to choose one drive.

EDIT: Also how is the sound? Is it 2.1? What quality are the speakers?

Thanks for the quick response. That's what I figured, but I just wanted to make sure so I didn't go out buying an additional drive at some point and have an unpleasant surprise.

I was also wondering how the sound quality is? Is it pretty comparible to the HP HDX or Toshiba Satellite that I've heard good things about (as far as sound goes)?

I personally haven't heard the HP or Toshiba. The 5793 has overall decent sound quality. Maybe some other 5793 owners can chime in with their opinions on the sound quality. ;)

Thanks. I have a nice pair of studio headphones that I'll be using most of the time probably (or ear buds on the go), but sometimes i like having the music going on speakers. With the SB X-FI does it have 5.1 capability? That'd be pretty sweet.

toshiba used to produce premium laptops, what's happening with them now? I don't see any high end model of them anymore.

I answered my question by looking at the specs to what kind of speakers can go on the sb x-fi.

And yeah I heard Toshiba was really good but they aren't as configurable and they don't have up to date specs.

the sound on the NP5793 is "acceptable" It's not the best i have heard, and sometimes i think the speakers are straining. then again i rarely use the speakers, and put on my gaming headsets.

For a person (me) who was happy with AC '97 audio on his desktop, the 5793 HD audio should more than suffice... :D I'll post again when I get it (= tomorrow :D ) and give my feedback about sound :) But I'm bound to like it.... ;)

The audio on my Dell was better than my 5793.. but I use my headphones so it's all good. With headphones on, the audio is great as far as richness goes. Without, I'm not happy with cranking it to 75% to listen to music, I'll need to buy external speakers for that I suppose

The audio on it is pretty average, or a tad above it. The mini-subwoofer is pretty much non-existent, but the SRS WOW effect really improves the volume and crispness.
Up until the max volume you won`t hear tinny sounds.

Has anyone messed around with the Realtek HD Audio Manager much? I'm listening to The Raconteurs full volume with Environment Sound Effects set to Plain and Equalizer on Powerful. It's hard to believe this even has a mini-subwoofer honestly!

I understand it's a laptop so I'm not complaining at all. For what is, I'm happy but think I'm running out right now to get some external speakers... there's a new Bose store by me!!
