Looks good to me, chief. Are you going to leave the extra power brick at work?

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
Nice specs. Hope your lappy arrives soon.
-
Howitzer - thanks!
Soviet - I'm planning to put together a docking set up of some kind where I currently have my 6 yr old desktop, so I thought it would be nice to leave one there and keep the other in a notebook bag.
It doesn't look like there are many good 3rd party docking solutions for notebooks. I suppose I could use a USB hub for mouse, keyboard and printer, but then I'd still have to plug in the power, speaker cable, and monitor every time I use it. It's not the end of the world to have to plug in 4 things, but do you have any advice on an alternative? -
Anybody know what brand HDD's XoticPC uses?
Some brands run cooler than others.
Congrats on your new toy! It's the best 15" gaming laptop to date.
You will not be disappointed. -

You made an excellent choice! I love the quality feel and responsiveness!

I order this same laptop 2 weeks ago, and I'm getting it this Wednesday through UPS finally, I can't wait
my specs are lesser then yours, I got 320GB vs your 500 but I also went 7200rpm, and my processor is the 8700.
I can't wait! -

Congrats!!!!! lol... although kind of funny as you waited to order it... and now we should see the new Alienware M15x refresh in the near future probably August or early september
-
I just hope its worth the wait. I'm holding off buying the NP8662 myself in hopes that the new m15x doesn't disappoint.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
It probably won't it will be almost exactly like the M17x in a smaller 15" package with only 1 280m
-
Sounds pretty awesome. I guess I will wait. I just hope it will come out, in the very latest, late August. Do you believe that it will be around the same price as the current m15x? I've heard many comments that it is currently overpriced.
By the way, sorry for bringing up alienware in a sager threat : / -

How much for those specs?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yes Dell/ Alienware has been very competitive with their pricing... as is evident with the M17x compared to their past systems... their prices are comparable with Sagers as we are seeing... however realize the M17x and the M15x come with an array of extra features most laptops don't have which make them slightly more expensive
-
Couldn't you just buy a np8662 now and put a gtx 280m in it instead of waiting for the new alienware?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yes but it isn't designed for it... the heat in the M15x is going to be much lower... have a very beatiful style, have an MXM 3.0b slot for future upgrades... the Sager has the MXM2.1 slot... smaller power adapter etc.

Please don't bring up Alienware in this thread. Fanboy!
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
hahah sorry I won't again... BTW I love SAGER!!! I was going to go with a 9280 originally but I'm a student so it just wouldn't work for me
-

Lol, ok. BTW, out of curiousity, how much did you spend for that Alienware?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
3,400 :/ But to me it is worth it over and over again... we'll I guess I should wait till I get it! lol
-

3,400?! Oh my god, too much money! You could buy a car with that!
You must be rich! -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Or just a student that saves well and only buys big things every once in a while... I also don't really have a social life so I don't spend money on that... I also have a summer job and make ~300 dollars a week, and I got about 2000 dollars in grad money
you can figure out the math I think
-
Anyway, back on topic...
-
Thanks for the heads up theriko, sounds like a USB Hub and then a couple other "plug ins" is the way to go.
It looks like a number of display companies are transitioning to 16:9 1080p notebook screens. I'm guessing that I would be better of with a 16:10 1050p to match the resolution of my 8662, is that accurate?
Would plugging my 1050p notebook into a 16:9 1080p display cause problems? -
not at all, you can use any res you want as an external. My main exernal is 1280x1024 (haven't go round to upgrading it yet..) but I also use 1366x768.

Finally decided on NP8662
