And I feel great hope this computer doesnt disappoint me. Also Why does it say user upgradable under graphics card( i read the "small print" on the web site and it said that it doesnt mean that there will ever bee a better graphics card availible). Is this true?
-
Yes, the videocards are interchangeable MXM Type IV.
the reason you see the small print is because they cannot guarantee future cards that do not exist yet... which is very reasonable.
that small print has been around since the first Geforce 8M cards... now there has been many MXM Type IV compatible cards available:
- 7950 Go GTX
- 8700M GT
- 8800M GTX
- 9800M GTS
- 9800M GT
- 9800M GTX
- Quadro 1600M
the only future cards that are known and coming out in MXM-IV are:
- Quadro 3600M/3700M
- Quadro 2700M -
Believe me, you won't be disapointed. My weird though on this is that the hard drive runs cooler when gaming than internet browsing...
-
gaming loads the textures and such into the RAM and video memory... the HDD is barely used after it loads up the game or map.
-
ok thz for the info. so will one of those upcoming graphics cards be better then the 9800GT?
-
what accessories should i buy before i get the laptop?
-
the 9800M GTX and the Quadro 3700M will be faster than the 9800M GT.... but not by much (less than 10-15% difference in performance)... especially for the price you have to pay for the faster cards.

- Zalman ZM-NC1000 / NC2000
- NZXT Cryo LX
- Cooler Master Infinite
- a good case or backpack -
ok thanks for the reply

And also, even if the future card that you can upgrade the notebook with IS better/faster, if it runs hotter or has some other issue, it will not work in the notebook (unless you want to overheat the notebook, cause issues, etc). So, I wouldn't hold my breath (as, what, the 9800GTX is too hot for the notebook atm?) -
Are the 4870's and GTXM's () slated to be MXM IV?
-
since Nvidia holds the patents on the MXM technology, ATI would have to pay to use it... which they have been for a while since the X1400/X1600's.
I have heard of the first engineering samples of the 4870 being in MXM format, but have not confirmed which Type.
Finally got the courage to buy a Sager NP8660
