After booting up my NP5165 today, after changing nothing the fingerprint reader will not work. At the Windows (x64 - Pro) login screen, it says "Fingerprint Reader Device Not Recognized" where usually it says "Please Wait..." and then "Scan Finger". I have uninstalled Protector Suite 2009 and the device drivers. When I scan for new hardware, the reader is found and Windows update finds drivers so I know its still there and "working" but it wont work when I re-install PS 2009. Has anyone experienced this issue and/or have a fix. I can't think of any other hardware specs necessary to diagnose and this just happened today after I did not do anything! Very frustrating...

Second it. My fingerprint reader is completely nonresponsive even after installing all the disc drivers.

I've had this happen before, what resolved it for me if memory serves is using the driver version that comes from sager/clevo for the actual hardware driver, rolling it back to that version or manually installing it from device manager, you can safely skip the update for it in WU.

I've noticed that sometimes multi boot setups can screw with it, setting up the fingerprint reader in one OS seems to invalidate it in the other and vis versa, just thought I'd mention that experience though your mileage may vary as I don't particularly run a standard setup.

This makes me skeptical to get the fingerprint reader on my labtop.

It's one of the base parts of these laptops, it's not an optional one and to be fair my reader has been incredibly reliable and functioned flawless since I got the laptop, I only had an issue with it when I was doing a very non-standard dual boot experiment which I was able to quickly fix anyway.

These are solid machines all around, going the Sager/Clevo route was one of my most fulfilling tech purchases.

The fingerprint reader stopped working on my np5793 after about two years. Reinstalling the drivers did nothing. If you figure out a solution, please let me know.

I double checked with our service manager here and we didn't really have any documented cases of the fingerprint readers malfunctioning as they have been pretty reliable on the Sager machines in the past. If you've tried loading the drivers with no success, it very well could be a hardware issue. Have you contacted your reseller to see if they have had an issue like this before and whether or not they have a fix? If not, I'm sure they can look into an RMA for you.
