Justin, will this be the same with every Sager reseller, or is this something you guys are doing as promotion?

It is Sager that is adding the fingerprint reader so all Sager branded NP5790's will have it.

Awesome news. But how exactly does it work? Like, do you have to swipe your finger down it to turn your lappy on? Or do you do it at the Windows logon screen as your "password"?

It works just like the login menu that you will encounter if you have set a password for your Windows.

The fingerprint reader will encrypt your boot up and any folder or file you direct it to. It will also remember website User IDs and Passwords. All you do is swipe your finger across the reader and it will continue to boot, open the folder or file, and enter your User ID and Password.

Sager has not finalized which software they are going to use. That will be announced later, but prior to shipment.

Pfff, looks like Turbomem is not totally mature ;)
Investigating Intel's Turbo Memory: Does it really work?

So yeah, it has some impact on battery life, but not on performance... It looks promising though.

    **UPDATE**

Due to supply shortages, Clevo's supplier cannot provide any firm ETA on Fingerprint reader availability other then maybe end of July to early August.

Therefore Sager cannot fill their current NP5790 (M570RU) pre-orders with fingerprint reader installed. Instead, Sager will fulfill orders submitted on or before Thursday June 28 2007 at an additional $50.00 off.

Because we do not have a firm time frame when the fingerprint reader will be available, customers that require this option should cancel their preorders for now and keep monitoring Sager's and Sager Dealer's web site's for further updates.

Edit - Sager is also adding the 200GB 7200RPM to their line up. You will see this updated on our website today :D

That's awesome! I didn't really care about the fingerprint reader, but I really love the 200GB 7200 RPM hard drive. With the $50 back from the fingerprint reader, I can essentially upgrade from 160 to 200GB for $25. Me = happy. :D I can still change my order, right?

Also, what goes in between the mouse buttons now? Is it just empty space?

It will be a empty space that will look similar to the mouse buttons. You are more the welcome to change your order. Just email me at the address below and I will take care of any changes. :)

You can use the discount from the Fingerprint Reader toward the upgrade to the 200GB 7200 or any something else if you wish :D

The 200GB is now on our website.
