I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I'd like USB3.0. I'm also attracted to the modularity provided by Clevo/Sager computers. However, due to budget restraints, I need to buy used. I'd like to filter my search based on models with USB 3.0, so I need a starting point -- a cutoff, if you will.
What is the oldest model that included USB 3.0?
Oh, and also, can someone provide some insight on the naming conventions of the models? It'd be nice to look at a model number and know where it falls chronologically in the product line.

The first ones that came with USB 3.0 were the previous generation, the NP8130/8150/8170 NP5160/5165/5175. You might not find them any more thos as they have been phased out and replaced by the current models.

Thanks for the quick reply, hutsady.
Do you know the pattern behind the naming conventions?
I can assume the last two digits mimic the ATi naming standard, as each increase means higher performance... but what about the first two numbers? 81 seems pretty distant from 51, given that they are the same gen -

Current Gen Ivy Bridge Models

All have USB 3.0The reason I didn't list the NP line is because they dont offer user upgradeable GPU's. You mentioned modularity, so I figured you may be interested in upgrading.. What else are you looking for?

Thanks for all of the information -- big help!
I'm looking for a moderately powerful gaming laptop on a budget. However, I am realistic about the price that I will have to pay. Ideally, I'd like a rig that could run BF3 on medium, has a USB 3.0 port, and has a nice 1080p screen (or at least has the option of replacing the screen w/ 1080p). Bonus points if the system already has an SSD, and if not, is cheap enough where I could replace the HDD with an SSD. Extra bonus points if I can buy an extended battery for it, as I'm looking at quite a bit of airline travel in my near future.
If possible, I'd like to stay under $800, so that's why I'm looking at older gens. -

yeah, i realize my needs/budget severely limit my options. i'll have to be patient and wait for the right deal.
