Hi well i recently ordered a Sager NP8278-S (Clevo P170SM-A) and since its my first gaming laptop so i have questions regarding the thermal compound.

what i want to know is how to apply it.
should i use it the moment i get my laptop?
    how long will it last?
and a video or pictures of where exactly to apply it on the sager.
and also when i went on customize thermal compounds it says FREE! - IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU
does that mean it will come with it already applied on the cpu+gpu or i will get an additional tube and have to apply it myself

thanks in advance. (sorry if the questions are noobish)

First of all, welcome to the forum!

Your computer will come with the compound already applied. If you want to apply/replace the compound later on, you will need to buy the compound yourself.

To apply the compound is easy and simple. All you need is 90-99% isopropyl alcohol and the compound. Make sure the die of the component and the heatsink are all throughly cleaned. When applying thermal compound you can use the dot method or the line method. I personally use the line method for the cpu because of the rectangular die and the dot method for the gpu because it's a square die. There are many images on google of these types of application methods. Make sure to not put too much as this will insulate the heat and is actually worse for your hardware.

If you have IC Diamond and you do not notice unusually high temps, you will likely never need to repaste. Also, congratz on picking a good model to buy!

As mentioned it will come applied and you really wont need to redo it for years. But when its time, and since you seem like you'd like to know here is the way IC Diamond suggest you apply it http://www.innovationcooling.com/application.html

You should try and repaste at least every few months as the paste will tend to dry up and therefore lose effectiveness. After several applications, you will get the hang of the procedure and it will be a quick 5-10 minute job.

Every few months is a little premature, even for so-so paste. ICD can go years before needing reapplied, if at all.

Indeed.. On my old Asus G73JH, it lasted 3-4 years before I sold it and I never needed to repaste...
