    Hello!

I am looking at the Sager 8130 and I have a few questions. I had never heard about this brand prior to coming to these forums, and as such I am a bit worried before I spend $1200 on a brand I have never heard about.

    Here are my questions:

    1. How reliable is Sager?

    2. Is their customer support good (I read a few reviews that said it was horrible :S)? I don't wanna get a DOA laptop and be told to deal with it.

    3. How is the quality/construction of Sager laptops? If its anything like the last Dell I owned, I don't even want to bother lol. The cover lifted off when I pulled the computer out of my case and I was like WOW THIS IS HOT (cuz my palm was on my freakin' mobo lols).

    4. Will this computer last me at least 3-4 years? To me, $1200 is a lot- especially when its my dad's $1200. This will be a computer I'll be using for college so it needs to last a while :p

Thank you and good day all!

    1. Sager is great. For a gaming laptop, this is one of the best you will find at this price point. The only real con (not really) is it isnt flashy. Performance is second to none.

    2. With Sagers, you have to make sure to buy from a reseller. The reseller will handle all possible customer issues. i.e. Dont worry about contacting Sager, call your reseller and they will handle everything for you.

    3. With respect to the 8130, the general consensus is the laptop is a beast in performance with solid construction, and cooling is really good. Sure someone will have some minor issue to nitpick over, but overall this is a very good laptop.

    4. Easily will last you 3-4 years as long as you take moderately good care of it. With the configuration it has, you should have no problems at all for atleast 3 years.

Just make sure to research different resellers and see how each fits you requirements.

    Thanks for the response.

I still don't understand how the resellers work :S

Is Xotic a reseller? They have a pretty nice offer of 1.3k for a nicely configured 8130. Idk about the warranty though :( I hope they offer good service.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I literally just bought my 8130 from Xotic about an hour or two ago (also my first sager -- first non-dell actually) and was wondering the same thing. But I've heard nothing but good things about them on this site, they have excellent ratings on resellerratings.com and the better business bureau, and I think their people are even active on these forums. That's what helped me decide to give them a shot. :)

EDIT: Just in case you didn't notice, the 8130 is actually on backorder right now. I have no idea when it will ship so if you need it now take that into consideration.

Resellers are reselling sager laptops, hence reseller. Basically their business model is one of reduced pricing for them as bulk buyers allowing them to sell the laptop at a profit to you. What you get out of it is more options and more personalized service. Although I doubt you could get Sager to admit it I think they like to ship off the support hassles along with those laptops and that is part of their reason for doing the reseller business. Clevo is the ODM. You can order direct from sager and sometimes this is a savings sometimes it can actually be cheaper at a reseller. I have ordered direct and had absolutely no problem at all with their support but it would seem that I was the exception rather than the rule based on what you see about the web. This as already said is one of the advantages of using a reputable reseller like xotic or PNB, you get their customer service as your contact point instead of sager. Resellers also have at time various options that are not available from sager such as different drives, memory, etc. Something to keep in mind is that while you may be buying from a reseller and getting different options than are available from Sager directly the laptop is still in most cases built at Sager and shipped from there.

edit, there is a sticky filled with information if you step up to the general sager and clevo section that you might want to puruse.

Do you think the $40 upgrade to better thermal compound is worth it?

If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, then maybe you should get it. But sagers are very easy to open and service yourself.

Are there any student discounts or financing offers available from Malibal or Xotic? Also, how do I get a 6970m in my 8130?! Lol that'd be a beast!

    Thanks

@Forum mods: Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks for moving this to the right location.

For info on financing or student discounts etc you'll want to contact the reseller directly, either thru a PM or thru their site.

The 6970 wont go in a 8130 :(, but it will the 8150 :) Sager uses different motherboards for the different GPU's so the 8130 cant use the 6970

I'm actually looking @ Xotic PC to purchase the 8130. Do you guys offer any student discount/financing options? I really don't have the means to pay $1400 straight up, but I can afford a 6 or 12 month plan.

Oh well haha the 460m seems to be more than NICE for a 15 inch laptop :p

^ If you wanna keep your laptop for another 3-4 years and play all the latest games on it - get 8150 with ATI card. It'll be around $1500 with cash and student discounts.

We do know that you can put a 485M in an 8130, for sure.

Yes, but only because it has the board to support Nvidia due to the 8130. Doing so can still cause warranty problems, plus you'd need to buy the 180w power brick as well as the 485m MXM card (making it far more expensive than just buying the 8150 from the get-go)

I really don't want a 17 inch laptop. I want a laptop I can play games on @ night and one I can take to class for taking notes.

Can the 460m handle world of warcraft raiding? Right now, my guild has completed current tier hard mode raiding and we're just messing around on the PTR, but I could not run WoW properly on my current laptop. I can run it fine on my desktop, but my current laptop holds about 10 fps in a 5 man dungeon.

Will the 460m be able to handle 25m raiding (all spell effects, lotta stuff going on) @ 60 fps?

ALSO-- I read that apparently xotic is going to use the 560 from June onwards on the 8130. higher number so I'm assuming its better? :D man i am so pumped for this machine lol

Easily should max out all settings. Blizzard makes their games so almpst anything should be able to play it.

It all depends on if you're Horde or not. The 460m starts to act up anytime a Blood Elf is in the raid. :D

On a serious note, the 460 is more then enough to run WOW.

for the record, according to Notebookcheck.net the average for Warcrack using the 460m on high setting is 81 FPS.
