For anyone stuck with "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"

Hey guys...

After 4 long hours... I'm finally starting the windows xp install on my new 5793
I kept having a "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer" message. A little google told me that it was a xp issue with sata hard drives, and the (only?) solution was to streamline the sata drivers to a new windows cd, with a tool like nLite.

So I did nLite, 1... 2... 3 different configurations, still no luck. Then I check the bios... and I see an option "Intel Robson" is enabled. Weird, I don't remember buying that (expensive) memory. So I disable it, and notice that the Sata config switches to "combined"... I reboot... and windows lets me install... YES!

I don't know who config my new laptop, but I'm kind of disapointed that this wasn't even checked...

It should have worked with nLite. You did not integrate the drivers properly. I've been slipping kits for the past two years. I've never dumbed down the HDD in bios. Alwasy kept it on SATA ENHANCED.

Maybe you missed a file when you integrated the drivers.

 

You want to slipstream the AHCI SATA drivers and not the RAID ones.

You could also disable native SATA support in the bios, install, and install the drivers later, but nothing comes close to putting together your own XP install tweaked to perfection.

 

I agree with you. I have my custom discs for Vista (x86&x64) +Sp1 and XP+SP3 SATA.

 

Ok, so should the Intel Robsonstill be enabled? In the bios I cannot change directly the Sata option, but it is linked to the Intel Robson.

I used the drivers CD which came with my notebook to create the windows xp and added the /Drivers/XP/00Chipset/All folder into nLite. 2 times without success. Then I downloaded drivers from http://64.208.175.44/pages/notebooks/download.cfm?ProductType=5793

No success either...

Did I miss any steps?

I went into the bios and changed the sata to ATA, now it shows the partitions and is installing as I type.

 

Make sure you install the SATA drivers once you're in Windows. Download them from the Intel website, they're Matrix storage manager drivers, then switch back to SATA, load up windows, don't let it install the new hardware, and manually install the Intel drivers.

 

It won't work. Bootloader will not load is you change to SATA after you installed on compatible.

 

I remember reading a thread outlining all the steps to installing SATA drivers after installing XP. I mentioned them as I remember in my previous post.

I haven't tried it myself though, I discovered nlite.

 

You did it wrong. Download this. Here is a small tutorial I just did for you. Good luck. Don't worry, when I did this a few years ago I had 10 lemons before my first success .










Make sure you select the appropriate drivers for your configuration. ALL WITH YOUR CHIPSET IN THEM!!!

The example i just did is with intel drivers that include my laptop.


Do you know how to make it bootable or you want some help? I use ISOBUSTER and NERO.

 

I hope you guys can help a real numpty... I been following this thread and think I can do it but I just can't extract my drivers. It's the iata87enu.exe from Intel's 965 family but when I do the command line and they're extracted they go into win51, win51IP, win51ip.sp2. I think they're compressed but I just can't open them. I guess you realize that I don't know what I'm doing but can anybody help me. Many thanks.

 

Well... the above post certainly was embarrassing. I hadn't extracted the iata87enu.exe file at all. But, after some more googling I found out how to do it. I got nLite to work and slipstreamed my drivers and got past that "no hard disk found" msg. So it looks like all systems go!

 

....I have no idea which to choose. I know the PM965, but does that mean I need both files with 9 in them?

*edit, well I can only select one. I guess the one that has 9m. Hopefully, cause otherwise I have to go buy more cd's.

 

Weird, you should be able to select more than one. I selected two if memory serves. Have a go

Did you select multiple driver or single driver folder?

 

This is mine...as you can see...I have a certain southbridge....what do I select in my case, from the drivers?

Oh, you can select multiple. I just did that. I hope it works this time, this being my last disc.

 

If the boot image is correct...and it boots, it will work . Just be patient with the Wizard. It will find the Sata drive .

 

Oh man, it's currently formating. I love nlite. I hate sitting around playing with settings when I do a fresh install. Now most of what I do is already done AND drivers are on the disc. This is great.


*edit- disregard that. nlite is stupid. Why would it not autimatically disable the filecheck if I delete stuff? I had to sit and hold esc while ym "unattended install" did it's thing. Now apparently I messed up windows installer somehow, don't remember removing anything of the nature. I probably clicked something on accident. I have to make get cd's, so I can make a disc that will actually function correctly. It also removed advanced options in my start menu customization. I'm going to make a new disc and only slipstream my chipset stuff and leave everything else default. This is too much of a pain in the butt.

Another edit- The disc I had didn't work, it was too scratched. I then made a bootable usb and it told me it was missing a file. I have now had my computer for about 5 hours and still don't have a working OS. I'll report back if I ever get XP installed, for now I'm just giving up and installing linux.
