For selling 8700 card, what value should it be?

Not having any experience selling an MXM card, I'm not sure how to price something like the 8700.

ie: Its obviously pretty new (and fairly gently used as I don't have the free time I used to anymore :) .. I think it was built in Sept '07.

Being MXM it might be usable on non-Sager machines (though the heatpipe is probably Sager specific?)

I figure, for those with 8600's it might be a worthy upgrade option..

So how should I price this on the for-sale group here, or on ebay? (I will post there so don't consider this a for-sale post per se; others may be interested too seeing as the 8800s are now flowing out.)

Have a look at how much the 7900's is going for on ebay. Then add a bit. :)

It's going to be rather difficult to sell as probably only 2 Sager machines can fit that 8700, the 5793 and the 9262.

The retailers(xoticpc, R&J tech, pc microworks) I checked are largely offering the 8700 as the basic GPU for the 5793. For the 9262, some places offer the 8700, 7950 or the 8800 as the basic GPU.

This would mean that the people who would buy your card are likely to already own a 5793 or 9262 and are currently using the 7950 cards and wish to upgrade to DX10 without having to send their units in for BIOS updates and etc. My guess is there aren't many individuals looking for that.

Price-wise, I couldn't give you a figure. It costs $45 to upgrade from the 7950 to the 8700 on eurocom brand new if that helps. 7950 GTXs go for about 300-300ish on ebay. Those are for the dell machines though, which are a lot more common and would command a better price as there's greater demand for them.

dtwn83, yeah, the scenarios are tight (assuming non-Sagers are out.)

7950's who want DX10 (who in their right mind is this? :)
8600's who want more performance, without going all the way to 8800 (dont' price too high, or just skip to 8800.)

The 5790's (Clevo 570RUs) and 5791's (571RUs) are a likely candidate, since they had 8600 or 7950s, as well.

Xirurg - where'd you pull that figure? Any idea what the base price for the card is?

I'll ask Justin.. who knows, maybe he'll spill the beans :)

I would think you should be able to get around $300 for it. I would recommend putting in the Buy,Sell, Trade section here on NBR.

eleron buddy, on Ebay. people are getting like 500 bux for them... easy bud.

the 8700 are a weak and crappy card. IMO ---you know where I stand on them.

but they are... 128 bit bus etc etc.

i see them go for 500 all the time the 7950s.

dude, you can get that much for it.

the cards are very hard to get.

so it makes them even more wanted.

look what the 6800's go for.

Well, I know, but I`ll be getting in the US in late June, so I will be selling it only then..so I`m trying to figure out if the price will hold. I mean with 500 for the 7950GTX, that would make my upgrade to the 88M GTX about 450$, which is better than 950...

trust me, i have been selling Dell cards on ebay for a year.

the price goes UP not Down.

they are worth more because they aren't being made anymore.

7950gtx for dell is 400 bux and has been so for over a year.

A 7950 GTX was $455 but is probably less now.
    A new 8700 GT is $355 + shipping
    A new 8800 GTX is $670 + shipping

    I hope that helps.

When you say the 7950 gtx card goes for 400-500, that's for Dell, or Clevo, or both?

Can a 7950 from an np5790 work with a dell machine that accepts 7950s, or is it brand specific? and the alienware 9750s are clevos, right?

I'm asking because I'm interested in upgrading to an 8800 card on my np5790, an it would be a great if I could recuperate that much of the cost back :)

the dell goes for 350 there everywhere.

    the clevo goes for 500.

    trust me dude.

they aren't that easy to find.

they were about 500. but since they don't make them N E more... they are worth 500 easy.

I wouldn't be to sure about that
there's newer and better on the market ... so my guess is a lot of people will try to save an extra 250, and then buy a 8800M ^^

The 8700 and 8800 prices are what you would expect to pay retail for these cards new. Although I haven't personally tested; a 7950 from a 5790 will not likely work in a dell.

Since dell uses proprietary cards, the only other people you`d be able to sell a 7950GTX are Clevo users.
The 8700M GT, now who would buy that? o_O

The 8700 is a great card (just not so great as an 8800.) So its all about price point, like anything else .. you can buy a ferrari, but most people don't :) (Obviously GPUs aren't the same scale as cars, but you get my point.)

yes, but people with m7700's which there is alot or clevo d900's

    can use the 7950's.

the still need replacements for their cards when they die.
