I'm curious as to how often redesigns in Clevo's notebooks occur and how dramatic are their changes? For example, the M5xxx series have been around for a while...how has the design changed (smaller, thinner, etc)?

The reason I'm curious is because I'd like an M860TU but it's just too big for me. Can I expect a smaller version of this notebook with the next redesign or is it pretty much going to stay like this with minor alterations?

Clevo notebooks that have replacement models of each other seem to have a slight difference in size and thickness.

the M570 series started with the:
    - M570A (single-core) ... then M570U (dual-core) ..... then M570RU (dual-core, MXM-IV) .... then M570TU (dual-core/quad-core, MXM-IV)

the dramatic changed happened from U to RU since the chassis was re-designed for looks and to have a beefier cooling system.

the D900 series stared with the:
    - D900T (single-core) ... then D900K (dual-core) ..... then D900C (dual-core/quad-core, MXM-IV)

the dramatic changed happened from D900T/K to D900C since the chassis was slightly re-designed and to have a beefier cooling system.

Clevo usually is designing a new notebook as the technology is still being developed and has not been officially launched yet.... they usually choose (from the recent past) a venue like CeBIT to debut their new systems.
    - no real timeline for new systems until a new technology is viable to use for designing.

Ah so I shouldn't be expecting any kind of dramatic reduction in size any time soon?

    Thanks for the help.

I think Clevo did a dramatic change in size with their current M860TU.

I, as well as many other notebook enthusiasts, thought that they gave up on 15" gaming notebooks after to old M560A .... Centrino with ATI X700. (Chaz still has his).

Clevo seems to care more about performance, stability, and cooling now then size/thickness/aesthetics.

Yeah that makes sense given their track record. They definitely seem to care a lot about quality and it seems that they don't want to compromise that by going the Alienware route. I guess I'll be waiting for a while until my next notebook.

That's not to say some don't look good too. Maybe it's just me, but I've always thought my M570ru was one of the beautiful things I've ever seen.

^^ agreed. Their systems perform well and looks professionally sleek.

I like my Clevo not having lights all over the place. :)

The M860TU is too big for you? I'd suggest you get the new Macbook then for a smaller but half as powerful 15 inch. But seriously, the m860tu is too....big?

I find it quite large indeed. Its almost 2'' thick. The .Macbook Pro is less than an inch thick (if you don't take in consideration the power).

Yeah it's big for a 15" notebook. I'm looking for something mobile, I don't wanna carry around bricks.
