This is my first ever proper gaming laptop. The specs are in my sig. I am planning on upgrading the GPU to nvidia's kepler mobile variant when the time comes. I know we know nothing about the gpu so far. But I have some general questions. I have never upgraded a laptop before but am very familiar with building desktop computers. So my question is how does this work? What should I keep my eye out for? How would I know whether or not the GPU will be compatible with my current device? Do you guys think it would? I know we don't have any solid facts but any of your opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Get your machine's Service Manual, not the user manual. That way you have a basic idea on what to do.

Depends on whether or not Nvidia's Kepler will use the same MXM slot as the 485M (MXM 3.0B).

If they keep the 3.0B MXM standard, it also means TDP will be staying around 100w- so you really shouldn't have any issues just swapping out cards. However, if the MXM standard changes- TDP could go up and either way, the card wouldn't be compatible.

The card change itself is simple, under the component panel on the bottom, you'd have to unscrew the heatsink over the GPU and then you'd be able to just unslot the GPU and remove it.

To add to what others have said, you will need a decent type of thermal paste (I use MX3), paste cleaner (I use Arcticlean), an anti-static wrist strap (I use Anti Static ESD Grounding Plug) and you should observe the correct order of screw removal or tightening (should be on the heatsink tag). You may also need a new Bios update which can be dangerous if not done carefully or if you try to update some Sager with Clevo Bios's and vice versa.
