    Hi,

I have got 3XS LG17 Vengeance, which is basically Clevo P670RG copy. With Optimus on and running on Intel HD 530 integrated GPU I usually get around 3.5 hours life. However, when connecting external monitor via HDMI out, the battery life gets down to around 2 hours. If I disable nVidia 980m, system stops recognising external monitor which leads me to a conclusion that HDMI out runs on discrete GPU and draws significantly more power (approx. 30W instead of 18W according to HWinfo). Is there any way to force laptop to omit nVidia card and use integrated GPU to get longer battery life when connecting external monitor via HDMI?

    Cheers,
    bladteth

No, because HDMI is connected directly to dGPU core.

That's what I thought. Do you know if any of Mini DisplayPorts on that laptop are hardwired to integrated GPU?

Only eDP, for internal screen, is connected to both dGPU and iGPU, via MUX switch (one-way).

The logic here is if you are on an external monitor then you are near a socket.
