Hi guys, i have a problem with something but i am not what it is. Team fortress 2 problem is when i try to connect to a server it takes a very long time to join. It sits there for like 40 secs at the retreving server info part for ever after that part its pretty fast. This problem never happened before but its been like slow ever since i did a clean wipe .
REASON FOR WIPE: tf 2 would freeze at the retrieving server info part. - So cleared tf 2 cache so before launching it reloads some files and it 55% i would get blue screen of death. Also when i tried installing coh at 15 % blue screen of death.
So i re-formated now its been some weeks everything runs okay but tf loading part is very slow.. My friend with a worse laptop ... way worse can join before i do . I have the same internet connection drivers etc.
2nd problem. My cod 4 randomly freezes for a good 20 secs and then resumes . Also there are no fps drop in cod 4 at all and tf 2 runs smooth as well. Temperatures seem to be pretty normal.
Any suggestions to seek the problem / solution will be highly appreciated !

Try looking for driver updates, that's normally the problem when you get a new laptop.

I would say check graphics drivers, which gfx card is in that machine?
I had lots of problems with my ATI X1400 and TF2, it didnt like the turbomemory feature (no not the vista addon rubbigh) I probably got the name wrong, but its to do with having 256mb dedicated and using another 256mb system ram for the game
i would constantly get memory warning messages and slowdowns during tf2 games. -
well i think got the newest drivers from the drivertogo site or something like that. But it think i should get the older version because i think before i re-formated i had older version of driver.

ok here's an update, my son has been experiencing this exact problem of slow connection to server (sometimes like 2 mins before getting into the game), now this has started happening since the big new update with the bomb train level
anyone out there know why this is happening, I dont know why the steam forums are no help here, but searching through them I dont find any answers
we have tried the uninstalling avg route,
remember this was fine until the tf2 update!
he has an Athlon x2, geforce go7600 1gig ram system running windows xp
I will be experimenting with graphics drivers, but think that its odd that they would affect server connection, unless its failing to initialise the 3d, but then why doesnt that happen with other Source games? hmmmm................
Freezing/Tf 2 slow load up WHy?
