    I experienced a funny thing.

when i overclock my CPU, i'm not able to overclock the gpu.
if i do, i get freezing after 10 sec.

one guy on the forum wrote that my PSU is the problem, but ...

..undervolting my cpu to 1.05 don't help either.

and it seems impossible to me that oc'ing the 8800m gtx to 550//800 would draw that much power.

anyone experienced the same problem? and mor important: is there a solution?

    thx in advance.

    regards

If you don't overclock an Extreme CPU (that has the unclocked multilpier) then you must be using a software for upping the FSB.

By doing that you are also upping the frequency for the PCI bus on which the GPU (8800m) is connected. So by doing that you are actually making the GPU run a bit faster WITHOUT you extra overclocking (by using NTune, Rivatuner or whatever). That is probably why you find it difficult to overclock both at the same time.

I have the X9000 that overclocks from 2.8 to 3.2 by changing the unlocked multiplier from 14 to 16. That keeps the FSB to 200 and lets me overclock the GPU as well.

Had the same problem over 540 900. Only way to get more then from the GPU is to modify the NVidia bios and change the voltage from 1v to 1.05v so that it can run at 600 950 or maybe even more.
    Google 'nibitor' and 'Nvflash'.

change the voltage on your processor to 1.05

i bet that will fit your thing

i have gpu already running at@ 1.05v, and tried lowering cpu voltage too with no success.

well, it's too much for both to be oc'd

you probably need a bigger PSU.

    I know when I oc'd my m1710 hardcore I needed to upgrade to a 150w psu

because you are going over the tdp

How did you change the CPU voltage?

Which one is that please? There are many programs from rightmark (rmclock, cpurm, rmma etc). May I please have a link to the one that lets you change CPU voltage?

EDIT: It looks like it is RMClock but that's only for lowering the voltage. Any way to increase it?

Thanks, I had already edited my post above that I found the software but it does not include an option to increase the voltage.

I´m already trying to get a 160W PSU, Li Shin 0226A20160, but it seems to be very hard to find one with normal 5.5mm/2.5mm connector. Most are with 4 pins.

oc cpu alone works fine, 2550 mhz instead of 2.2

which gains better results though, in game, the gpu or cpu? OC'ng the cpu gives me better performance in crysis than OC the GPU for some reason. I guess because i play at 1280x800 res, which benefits from the cpu mor than gpu? I wonder how this is with all games? I can overclock the gpu STABLE @ 610/915 with almost no added temps whatsoever.

Overclocking the GPU gives me more because I usually play at 1900x1200 but it also might be because my CPU is so fast anyways (3.2) that the GPU is the bottleneck.

Did some more testing (see sig) and the best scores I got were at 3.1GHz rather than 3.2GHz BUT using a higher FSB. So 15x206.7 (3.1GHz) is faster then 16x200 (3.2GHz) both in Crysis and 3Dmark and my CPU temps are also lower.

At a lower resolution, the CPU is the bottleneck, at higher ones it`s the CPU.
Just follow the CPU tests in 3dmark,you`ll see that they are at a very low resolution to strain the CPU as much as possible.

I know, but when I overclock using the fsb then everything runs faster as well (GPU because of pci express overclocking, ram etc.)
So even if the actual CPU speed is a bit lower because the whole system is running on a higher fsb I get an improvement in both low and high resolutions.

I hope I am explaining this correctly!

So, you're saying that the CPU is always the bottleneck, no matter what the resolution? :D
