This is very bizarre but my fn +f1 (toggle on/off touch pad) and fn + f2 (toggle on/off max fan speed) on my m570u have stopped working. I did use those functions the most, so it's a bummer to not have them anymore (could my excessive use of them caused them to stop working?). I don't think any software in installed in the culprit, but I do move my laptop around a lot so something may have come loose. I did reseat the cable ribbon on the keyboard that attaches to the mainboard, which did nothing. All the other functions work, dim, mute, camera etc... Even the f1 key works in various Windows applications.
Another odd thing is that the dj panel track indicator is lit up, this has never happened until now. When I boot it up it's at 00, and when i use fn +f1 the numbers go up (sometimes is throws letters in there as well).
Any suggestions?
I'm guessing i'm going to have to send in for a new keyboard?
I got my warranty through the now defunct Flawless computers so i'm not sure how easy it's going to be to get help from Sager. The Keyboard should be covered for a barebones laptop right?
-
welcome back rickster.
yes, the keyboard is covered by barebones warranty.
you can ask for a cross-shipment of the replacement keyboard, rather than having to ship the whole system in.
(but since you are in the area, you can contact them to do an in-person swap of the keyboard.)
I would try to go to BIOS... look for "Reset Configuration Data" and say yes to it.
This will not affect your BIOS data, it just re-detects everything again and re-allocates IRQs and such.
And maybe try a BIOS update if you havent yet. -
<3 Gophn, so helpful and so fast with the replies.
Where can i get an updated BIOS? Sager doesn't have it on their website and they want me to call them to get it.
just tried the reset config data option and nothing happened, i'll try later to see if it works after a cold reboot -
