I have been looking at buying a sager for sometime now and I am on the verge of ordering either a 9262 or 5796. My question is with laptop quad cores coming out in August will they become the new standard over core 2 duo? I am trying to buy for longevity and want to have the option of upgrading as new hardware becomes available. I will have this laptop for a minimum of three years and if I could extend that further by ugrading that would be great.

The new notebook quad cores will not matter much vis-a-vis the 9262 because that system runs a desktop chipset and desktop CPUs. They will, however, be of interest to the 5796, but there's no way of knowing at this point if they'll be compatible with that system, if a mere refresh will be all that's needed, or if they'll be put into an entirely new system.

The other thing to keep in mind if it's longevity you want is that Nehalem will soon be coming out, and that will basically spell the end of the development cycle for the current CPUs because the Nehalem architecture is radically different than the current architecture (i.e., no FSB).

    like said above.

a mobile quad-core CPU will not be able to perform as well as a desktop quad-core of the same speed

another thing is that mobile quad-cores [when it becomes available] will be extremely OVERPRICED as compared to a desktop quad core CPU [which is quite bang for the buck]

mobile quad-core CPUs are schedule to run about $1000 a piece.... forget that... might as well get a Clevo D901C (Sager 9262). :)

    Q2 2009 isn't that soon, unfortunately :(

However, if you want to bleeding edge, performance desktop parts should ship before year's end.
