Quick question. I'm looking at the P870KM1 that is non g-sync. If later on I want to upgrade to a screen with g-sync, will I need to replace the GPU also? Or is it just a bios change?
Thx.

If the system is not G-Sync to begin with no updating screen, changing gpu or bios will turn it into one. Sorry

Er correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that's how it works anymore?
The gpu should support GSync so if you switch to a GSync display I think it should work? If not a boutique can probably help you out. -

The G-Sync cookie tells the Nvidia driver what to expect on laptop. It's set to a list of components. Your screen / GPU / Needs to match what's in that cookie, screen must also have a special edid, GPU must have a G-Sync vbios. It's the reason why my system which was G-Sync enabled is no longer G-Sync enabled as I changed my GTX970m to a GTX1060 which is not in the cookies list, unless the cookie is updated it will never have G-Sync enabled again. So if you have the option to have the system with G-Sync also make sure the OEM can update the cookie should you upgrade the GPU.

Thanks. I also found another thread after some searching that said the hardware is different and reflashing will not make the card g-sync capable. There is a laptop for sale on this site I was interested in but I'm better off getting one with g-sync already installed.

If that's important to you then certainly yes, otherwise you may as well buy new with the hassle/cost.
