I was playing NFS Shift 2: Unleashed for about 3 hrs last night (All settings on high, 1080p) and I noticed my temps peaked at 70 deg C. Am I safe?

XD you are more than safe, since Nvidia cards can take up to 105C and ATI card up to 114C... so everything between 70 and 88 is a good temperature under load, specially after 3 hours of gaming ;)

Yes, you're fine :). You don't need to worry unless you're seeing temps of 90C or higher. You're nowhere near the range where you'd have to worry.

Those are great temps. If you want to insure all your parts will be safe in any game, download a stress tester like Furmark for your GPU and completely load it for 30 - 60 min, see what temps you see, hopefully they're under 90 degrees, but keep in mind it isn't a real world test.
