Thanks again to all the friendly experts on this forum; you're the best knowledge base I've found on the web!

I'm still getting used to my new M570U, and wanted to run an annoyance by the rest of you to see if others have noticed it and, more importantly, solved it!

At idle, my GPU temperature (reported by RivaTuner at +200degC) will slowly climb to 90degC whereupon the main fan will finally spin up and begin to dissipate heat. At this point, the GPU will rapidly cool to approximately 55degC, at which point the main fan will spin down to its lowest setting, allowing this whole process to repeat itself.

The end result is an endless "bounce" or oscillation between 55 and 90degC with a period of about 120 seconds. (see attachment)

It appears that there is some very simple logic used in the fan control function - namely, only three fan speeds controlled by two temperature thresholds. Apart from simple annoyance over the fact that this really smart piece of kit has such a dumb fan, I'm concerned that, over the life of the GPU, such continuous thermal cycling will accelerate wear.

Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?

    Thanks much!

here is the best advice for overall cooling:

Just use the Fan Toggle (Fn+F2) to turn the fans to Max Speed when the notebook is on, so that you wont have to hear oscillations in the fans system.

Thats what many Clevo gaming notebook owners do.

And make sure that the fans are free from dust clogs.

Other than that, everything you have stated is normal, the built-in themp sensors switch on the fans (when a certain temp is reached) and turns itself off when the temp is in a safe zone.

Yeah Fn+F2 is a must.. and cleanings the fan ports is a must.. in a week I was noticing a lot of dust collecting.. makes me believe "Air is cleaner outside then indoors." you see all the time on TV. Also I too had to offset the measurements by 200 degrees.

Mine does that too, but only once. (note my post in this thread- http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=117521)
Once the main gpu fan has kicked in on mine, it doesn't turn off again. So my gpu sits around 50C most of the time it's on.

Is it unusually cool where you have your laptop, that it allows it to cool down far enough that the fan goes off? (low room temp, etc)

I would also definitely check that your fans/heat fins are not getting dirty.
