I am currently doing research on a laptop I am going to be purchasing for school. I am going to school for Mechanical Engineering so I am looking for something with a Quadro GPU since i will benefit from the Cuda core acceleration.

That said, I am nearly set on buying a Dell Precision M6600. I am not trying to spend the 3600-4200 as it ends up being in the configuration I would like it to be. So I am thinking about making some compromises here and there to bring the price down. Especially on things like SSD and RAM that I can not only upgrade myself for a lot less money, but I can probably come out with a better SSD then what they will include with the system. I can use whatever spindle HD they send me as a storage drive.

That said, I really like what I have been reading about the quality of the Sager. The NP9270 is something I would like to consider but I am not to thrilled about spending 1800 for an upgrade to the 5010M. While it would be drool worthy, I just am not sure that I would be utilizing the power of it to justify the cost. Though I am not ruling it out.

My curiosity is why can not not get the 3000m or even what I would really prefer - the 4000m!? They are MTX based cards and the coolers or mounts really shouldn't be THAT much different. Anyone have any experience talking with them on the phone to see if its something you can request?

Thank you in advance for reading my lengthy post and for any knowledge you may share with me!

I wonder how the performance of the 675M would be if I upgraded to two of them to operate in SLI while using any of the professional applications since I would still have the cuda cores available. And heck.. twice as many! I dont know if the programming of the applications would take advantage of that many cuda cores though?

Thank you so much for finding that! I see they even offer the Xenon processors! Crazy! I dont know that I would go much past the 3930k anyway.
