Installing now. Hopefully it doesn't crash all the time like it does on my desktop (with an ATI 4870 which may be the problem because this game has neglected ATI a little)

silly question but whats the best way to do a screen shot. paint dont want to know and i havnt loaded screen grab pro as im keeping it as low on the ground of software as i can.
after a short play im not sure if im going to get into this game or not. -
FRAPS is the best thing I've found.
Haven't tested it with GTA4 but I don't see why it wouldn't work. -
thanks for that Aryantes, ill give it a go.
-
Finished intalling the game... started playing... Amazed... It's a world made of straight lines, without any textures!
Oh men... -
how are you milcs, long time no see. -
I'm okay old friend...
But this game is really driving me insane. Waiting for such a long time to install it, to be able to sink myself into this world... Just to have no textures and to not be able to play!!!
Anyone with a Nexus got it to run properly? -
Its a display driver problem. Your options are to reinstall the entire OS, and install the 180.48 drivers, change display driver ID, or find some way to completely remove the drivers from your system. I finally got it working.
-
I got it to work by going in to safe mode and uninstalling my drivers and cleaning them with Driver Sweeper (or something like that). I then installed 180.48 and I finally got the textures.
But the game runs so slow... it's pathetic. Even in low settings... it just runs slow.
If they don't do anything to improve gameplay, then I think GTAIV for PC will be my biggest dissapointment regarding games. -
this is all i get but most of the graphics look ok. im not too worried about shades and sutch like. actually i cant get into the game so might delete it soon.

hi!... new nvidia drivers v180.84 for GTA IV:
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_gtaiv_downloads.html
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
but I dont know if it includes de .inf for us (laptops)...
if you can, check it and coment, please! -
to the people who have gotten it to work with reinstalling drivers and etc (like i see Emike and Milcs have).
I'm buying a new system, from Eurocom. the M860TU. When they install the OS and drivers and everything should I tell them to do anything special for this? Or since they're installing them from scratch anyway it'll be fine?
Thanks. -
You'll be fine. They put a 174.xx driver on there anyways. No worries.
-
i got a sure fire way to fix it, but it's a lengthy explanation....
-
Thanks Emike.
Though I thought you said 180.48 are the working drivers for the texture in the game?
Or do 174.xx work as well?
Also, They priced it to 1,800USD for me.
Upgrades made:
Webcam.
P9500.
320GB 5400RPM HDD.
Fingerprint.
Bluetooth.
Intel 5300 Wireless card.
Vista 64bit home premium.
Does that sound good to you guys for 11dollars over Xoticpc's price or not worth it?
Mainly I might choose them for leasing purposes.
But haven't decided yet.
Because talking to Justin before has made me feel pretty safe with Xoticpc.
As well has David and John at eurocom.
Which do you guys think?
And I would love to hear your fix Johnksss. -
GTA asks for at least 180.48, but many other drivers work. The 180.8x are the drivers you want though.
-
So should I update to 180.xx when I get the system?
They rated it at the same thing for me with the transfer rate.
1,800USD.
2288CAD. -
Well, with Sager's sale, you can have that same notebook for $1698.47 at Xotic.
-
how much, kin heck. it cost me £1781 and thats almost double. rip off britian.
-
Hi, hope you dont mind me saying, I think T9400 (much cheaper with nearly samy spec) and 250 GB with @7200 rpm with fall sensor (same price) would be marginably better choice, being cheaper as well; though your option is more power friendly, I doubt you would be able to get away far from mains power with such laptop.
Eurocom's bluetooth option is just a rip off, it costs almost as much as their WUXGA screen upgrade, I'd say hold off on that, and get a usb one for quarter of the price if you really need it.
Are you opting for 2 gigs of ram 9800m GTS by the way? -
2GB Ram in Vista x64? Thats about the biggest waste of a computer I've heard of in a bit. 2GB doesn't cut it anymore. GTA IV uses 1.8GB on my 4GB system alone.

Patch is coming soon. At MS for testing.
-
Sorry, forgot to mention I'm getting 4GB RAM as well.
And the system comes to 1,789USD on Xoticpc. Checked it already.
And I wasnt going to go for the bluetooth, but people on here say its the only way to stop the whining noise.. so I thought it'd be good to have..? -
I've tried it a few times but the performance is pretty bad. At least it doesn't crash like it does on my desktop though (ATI 4870 512mb, dual core 3ghz, 4 gig ram)
Hopefully the crash will help things.
I'm also going to try the crack. I'm not sure if we are allowed to talk about such things on here but I think that it's worth trying if you are having crashing issues. I've seen games be "fixed" by cracks before. -
By the way, which controllers does this game support exactly?
(E.g. the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller for windows?) -
saitek. it works with it, but i don't know if that constitutes it being supported
-
gtaforums.com has a workout that lets you use any game controller but I think that only the 360 controller is officially supported.
-

Well I am unable to use my logitech dual action controller with this game. There are work arounds which I will need to modify some files within vista, but I really don't feel like messing with files and I shouldn't have to. I'll wait till a patch comes out or use the keyboard and mouse.
-
no work around here, but it is overly sensitive
-
So, the 360 controller is the only plug-in and play controller right now?
-
heres an interestng bit of information for everyone.
im running a Nexus/M860TU/NP8660T (and a fine piece of machinery it is if i do say so myself)
ive got the p9500, 4gb ram, 9800GT
but even with all this power at my fingertips the reccommended cpu to run GTA IV is (wait for it)
drum roll please....... intel core 2 quad 2.4 and above
ok, the Nexus will still play the game but i quoat, if you want this game to fly we reccommend a quad 2.4
now test your computer to see what reading you get Can You Run It
-
"Video RAM: Required - 512 MB, You have - 1.7 GB"
please, could you explain that??? 1.7GB VRam ???
thanks! -
-
ah. ok!
Mike...

this is your spec, isn't it?
I dont run the test but I suppose that your results = mine, true?
so I think that I will can play with the game (I hope).
now, I am installing a copy of the game (my original GTA4 still has not arrived)
I will post how the game run in my laptop. (if I can make to work it) -
Those are my specs. Same as yours. But be ye warned... it still doesn't run well.
-
I just check the game now!
and it's AWESOME!!! GREAT!!!
some issues like bad performance in general and the "spray paint" shadows, but the game plays well and looks very very nice!
my config is by defect (auto):
Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (62 Hz)
Auto
Texture Quality: High
Render Quality: High
View Distance: 32
Detail Distance: 70
Vehicle Density: 50
Shadow Density: 8
869/1004 MB
running in Vista 64bits and with the last nvidia drivers 180.84 (with the .inf from www.laptopvideo2go.com)
Fraps (testing "running outside, in the street with polices behind me with a lot of cars. no inside of any building... i mean no indoors"):
gtaiv
Frames: 5043 - Time: 185920ms - Avg: 27.124 - Min: 20 - Max: 45
now, waiting for patch!
then, I hope that we will get better performance and nice shadows.
(sorry my english) -
Hows the M860TU/NP8660s on running it..?
Playable at decent settings? (Single player offline mode) -
pc in sig
same as Jarinaware but vehicle density @ 30 fraps says that when it's night and rainy outside I take 20-21-22 fps but in other conditions I have 35 fps..
consider that I have 512mb 8800M GTX!
