Just to get this straight.
I keep reading that those cards are not compatible with LVDS and only work with eDP, yet I read that people have no issues whatsoever to run them in their p150sm / p170sm notebooks, they are literally plug and play with minor heatsink mods.
So the reason for this is that those cards do not direcly support LVDS but they still work fine in LVDS systems provided those systems have optimus?

It depends on the model but retrofits that work are either working because
A) the laptop has optimus switchable graphics, which can 'translate' the dGPU output to LVDS panel.
Or
B) you buy a new screen and cable which use an eDP port on the motherboard instead (as I had to with my P370EM, which doesn't have the intel iGPU connected)Prema likes this. -
I don't think notebooks like P150sm or P170SM have an eDP port on the mainboard. Correct me if I'm wrong. -
