I might have missed something but this looks like mobile fermi to me:

is it really here that soon???
-
Haven`t Eurocom done this every time there is something new coming? ETA June would have been awsome, but I guess the ETA is a swing and a miss.
100W, lets hope W870 can handle it2gb GDDR5, thats more than the desktop card.
-
Well I consider that 2GB memory highly unlikely due to Nvidia's memory choice (1500 and 1300mb) on desktop platform.
June would be awesome yes -
Yikes!
100 Watt parts in a notebook is crazy talk. Perhaps the laptop is powered by fuel cells and cooled with refrigerant?
-
Hmmm, that's promising. Looks like Nvidia decided to rush with the 480M and I am sure they will also bring a high-end 3xxM series to the table as a cheaper alternative to the M5870 and 480M. I am also not surprised they went all the way up to 100W TDP given the current TDP of Fermi cards, but in a way this is disappointing as it shows that Nvidia has trouble being competitive and maintaining a low TDP. What's next? Ati with a 100W Mobility card?
-
Wouldn't DirectX 11 mean this is actually a new card instead of a rename? Can they rename the previous cards and make them DirectX 11 compatible?
BTW, 100W is also the TDP of the Quadro FX 3800.
Also that's weird, the only use for 2gb of Vram is a resolution higher than WUXGA.
Then again, that's coming from Eurocom. -
is this gpu compatible with w860cu??
-
100W!? The m17X has a 240 watt PSU, with two 4870s and the 920XM, it can barely handle it. Looks like they better have better PSUs for Fermi SLI
-
i wounder if this will beat the pants off of the 5870...
-
if that is the power requirement of the 480M GTX ...
May I ask if the current D900F will be able to support this card with out any modifications ???
-
-
LOL. 100W for the first GPU, 100W for the second GPU, 62W for the CPU + all of the other gadgets and ports(each USB port used is about 5watts)+ overclocking. They better make a 400watt PSU!!
-
John Shore is happy to try and defend Eurocom on nbr I would like to hear from him on this thread and confirm what the Eurocom website says in public......... -
Whatever the case I hope it does work in the w870cu!
-
I'd wager that a lot of OEMs and system integrators are going to downclock this like crazy. Fermi is very hot.
Or it might just be vapor-ware to keep the nVIDIA shareholders happy while they wait to get a die shink in and maybe some efficiency improvements. -
The whole 2GB of GDDR5 seems a bit crazy, but perhaps it is necessary to give it an edge over the 5870m in some games. Wait is this going to be a single or dual gpu card?
-
single gpu.....2gigs wont give any edge, its way to much...infact to much memory can slow down the card.
-
I think it's going to be a monstrous single GPU card that is on par with performance of a dual card setup, could be a very good alternative to 5870x2, since if the performance could be on par or even if a bit worse, it will still be so much better as a single GPU setup.
-
This sounds like wishful thinking to me.... -
But the good thing is, once 480M is available in the 870, there won't be anymore G73 vs 870 arguments as they would be on different levels already. -
It would definitely put the 870 at a huge advantage over the g73 if it happened. My guess is there will be a 480m sli version that would equal or top the current 5870m CF though. One gpu faster than 5870m CF just seems unlikely to me. -

I don't care if it's loud and a power monger when running games....but I think it might be wishful thinking for it to be equal to say 5870m crossfire. If it was then it would be like an equivalent to desktop 5850 right?

480M SLI IMO is not very likely, probably only possible in next few revisions and die shrinks. That's why nvidia is probably planning to have a monster single card to match up a dual card since the card won't be able to SLI. -
Actually, the 5870MR is not based off of the 5770, its from the previous 4xxx series, and i believe the same will be true for the new nvidia card. Someone correct me if im wrong.

Thats what i thought as well, but i recall Soivet or someone else saying otherwise, and they just tacked on DX11 support.
-
It's not so easy to just "tack on" DX11 support, since there's dedicated tesselator in the 5870MR for dx11 like the desktop 5000 series, and core and shader amount of 5870MR is also exactly the same as the 5770.

Can someone clarify to me how this works?
100 watt for GPU. I know for my notebook it's a 150 Watt PSU essentially from the power pack I'm using.
For the W870CU, 150-180 Watt right? Or is it like the Alienware mentioned, 200 watt +?
So how can Eurocomm just offer a 100 watt GPU? Can the power jack on the W870CU even handle more? I'm assuming the power jack and motherboard is only rated for a certain amount of power.
Enlighten me please? Just passing by, I saw the GTX 480M 2 GB while scrolling through -
Once 480M is out, if the power adapter is not enough, Clevo will probably just change the power adapater included, anyways the D900F etc power adapter is 200W+, and yes, you can use a 200W power adapater with 860/870CU, I think soviet was using such an adapter as well for his 870CU. For Eurocom, don't trust what they put up there, they always like to put stuff up 1-2 months in advance to attract buyers.

Eurocom is moving to 300W AC Adapters on their high end models so they can support SLI with 2x GTX 480M - each running at 100W; so they need 200W just for 2x VGA cards + another 100W for CPU/RAM/etc. They have enough TDP in some of their current models like Panther or Leopard to support single GTX 480M. -

Oh, I thought Crylo was just speculating. Should be made clearer, at least u know who the other resellers are on here from their sig.

Yep Panther911 is Mark Bialic. The infamous president of the infamous Eurocom.

Some of that 100W on the GTX480M is just from the extra Gb of RAM they added to the card. When ATI added the extra Gig to the desktop HD5870 E6 it bumped the TDP at max load up 40W. -
Dare I ask how much this video card will cost by itself....
-
Its not even real yet.

what is max tdp for w870cu...I want to preorder....
-
Bigger PSU ... less mobility, that I don't like. Anyway, we shall wait and see.
-
If you bought a w870cu I doubt you are going to be caring about mobility.
-
Why not KipCoo ? I have an M570TU and it fairs very well in terms of mobility and battery life even with a QX9300 .
-
Forget SLI!
I say go for dual PSU's
power to the people!
Eurocom is known for this, post something that will get the masses all in a frenzy and then don't deliver.
I would love to see a 480GTX but at 100W the power brick is gonna be called the power cinder block. -

Yes I can, for instance the old Dell that I had, used a 7900 GS and got 3 hours of battery life when I bought it or about two hours and a half with the 7900 GTX.
My current laptop can go beyond 2 hours of battery life with a P-type CPU, or a bit less then two hours on a quad core.
I like to have powerful laptops and I like 17 inch screens, but if I don't care about mobility I might just as well go and buy a desktop or an All-in-one-PC, why bother with expensive laptops? I am not asking about getting 3 hours+ but when the light version of the gaming laptops starts to get close to 5kgs and struggling to reach 1 hour of battery life... let's just say I can't even take it out to watch a movie on it with my friends as I used to do with my Dell or my current notebook not to mention business presentations.
Maybe for some of you here these things don't matter but some people, just like me, use their notebooks for a lot of other things besides gaming. -
I can't say I'm surprised this is the kind of thing Nvidia would be coming out with. Given the limitations on power compared to the desktop parts, I doubt this card will be much better than the Mobility HD 5870.
-
I'd say it will be much stronger.
If Nvidia waited this long to release it better be. -
I'd only trust this gpu in a clevo or aw, but wow, nvid may be actually gettin a grip

But IMO those who are expecting a monster are speculating in fantasy land. Nvidia announced a 128 version of GF100 months ago and the current GTX 285M is 128 core, just using logic, that's my guess.
Like HD5870, I think you're going to be looking at 30-35% increase in performance over the GTX 285M and that's admirable performance gain, maybe not to satisfy some of you.
And from what I read about Eurocomm, couldn't care less what they say, speculate or do, I think they are a horrible company to begin with anyways.
Oh well, have fun fantasizing. -
For clevo based books, i'd say people who concider buying, shouldn't think about portability in a sense that you can walk around the house, but A to B is perfect,
Now for clevo, its all about pure build and internal design, thats whats make them shine
I think if there is one group that'l make the GPU work, it'l surely be clevo hehe.
GTX 480M 2GB GDDR5 DX11 PhysX 100W GPU?
