Rumour is just rumour, impossible is simply impossible, unless of course if the 480M is yet another G92.
-
It's not a G92 and the 480M is not coming any time soon. The next thing you are going to get from Nvidia is the 380M in May-June. Which should come close to the Mobility 5870 in terms of performance, just that it will only have DX 10.1 .
The 480M will come out eventually, but it will take a while. -

Fermi hasnt even hit the desktop market, I would be VERY suprised to see a fermi chip in your standard laptop before fall.
some laptop manufacturers that build graphics workstations with desktop parts MAY have something on the go but with the power consumption I am reading thats even iffy. -
As for the mobile version that WAY off. Dont count on it this year. -
by hit I meant released and / or available.
-
On the 26th of March Fermi will be in shops.
-
And 26th March 2011, mobile fermi
-
It was probably the 380M, and Charlie just got it wrong, unsurprisingly.
And lol at anyone who thinks it will be a G92. -
-
The power brick would have to be the size of a cinderblock!
-
Hummm that report of a 400w psu for a laptop is coming to fruition!
.... -
I was just thinking that moo. lol
When he told me I was skeptical but now it seems pretty believable IMO. -
2 will hit but 1 will win; )
Hummm who to go with in
Q2? -
But would we be able to call such a machine... a notebook ? I have my doubts.
-
no we'll call it octi-tron like K-Tron's monsterous contraption... only thing would that GPU powerwise , it would own octi-tron.
-
Then bring on the octi-tron !
-
LOL.. 10char.

I wish my m570tu could take a 480M when it is released

And about cooling, a 18.4" will be required to hold the cooling system for such a big chip! It should idle at around 55-65C and max temp ~95-100C. Bloody hell!
-
I see the Sager NP8850 (Clevo W880CU) is a 17.3". I wonder how hot this thing would be!
-

It will work reaaally hot, considering how big the chip is!
