I've recently bought this NP9150 with GTX680m. But since the day I bought, I have this issue and thought with driver updates it's going to go away but it hasn't and it's been already like 4 drivers updates. So, I have latest graphic drivers on both iGPU and dGPU. I monitor the GPU temp and max is 85*C which I think is within operating temperature.
Here's the issue I am facing. It's intermittent, it seems to only start occuring only when I left my laptop on for about half a day. The longer I have my laptop on, the worse the issue gets or i should say, the issue occurs more frequently.
When loading up games such as Diablo 3(and many others which uses dGPU), there's a black screen delay when switching from my window screen to game screen. So it goes like this double click on D3 icon -> banner appears -> black screen -> diablo3 login screen with sound and everything. The issue is, it just stops at black screen but the game sounds and everything is on. Double click on D3 icon -> banner appears -> black screen -> No diablo3 login screen but only sound. The game seems to be running but it doesn't show up on the Screen (Lighted blank screen.).
This also happens when I alt - tab out from the game into window, or back into games.. It seems to me like switching between HD4000 and GTX 680m is not working properly... My cousin bought the same machine as me, same specs, same configurations, but he's not getting this issue.
Any ideas on the fix for this guy? I don't want to RMA my laptop since it takes like 2-3weeks... and the tech won't even find the issue I am facing since this is intermittent.
Thanks in advance!

do you use an external monitor? i ask because sometimes if i've last displayed a program on my external monitor, it'll get "stuck" there even after i unplug. i don't think it's ever happened with a game, but it sounds like everything else is otherwise normal for you.

Hi mattcheau,
No, I don't use external monitor.. just the blank screen issue, I even did a 2 hours burn in test kombustor for the dGPU, it seems to be stable. But, when I use 3Dmark 11 for benchmark test, it does the same thing blank screen when switching between test. No garbage, artifacts before the blank screen. Is this a hardware issue? -
ive read on here that alt/tab out of game can cause the black screen but not on start up.
ive never had this happen to me and ive had mine since august.
whats your full system spec cpu/ram/hard drive
also check your nvidia control panel to see if the games are set to start with the 680.
might be worth getting onto your tech support to see if theve encounterd any other customers with similar problems. -

I've had this occur on much older hardware with Diablo 2. Since you're running on Optimus though, it's likely driver related. Sounds like the OpenGL hangs and therefore is presenting you with no image.
If you alt-tab more than once, does that allow the game to pop back up? When you updated your graphics driver, did you do a clean installation? -
I would say it's a driver issue , did you try others drivers?
-
I contacted xotic pc and, Eric said, he's only heard of this problem twice and said the other guy fixed it by doing a clean window installation along with graphic drivers. He's contacting manufacture to see if they have any other suggestions.
I did the check as you've suggested and they are set to use the 680... I just had the same issue again this morning. After restarting the window, the issue went away untill now (cross fingers).
Specs: CPU - i7 3630qm, RAM - 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz, HDD - OCZ vertex 4 256GB.
Thanks for the help. -
Yes, I think it's the driver issue also, Is there any ways to do a clean video driver installation? (not just uninstalling the drivers and installing again because sometimes they leaves registry files and others bla bla bla). I just hate to reload my whole window... but if nothing works, that'll be my last resort...
Thanks for the help -
Others drivers as in? I am not quite good with software stuffs

Yes, you can select "clean installation" when installing new drivers. Just make sure the current driver is uninstalled. When you run the NVidia installer again, there will be a check box you can click on, next to "Clean Installation". You may also want to try installing within Safe Mode, as MrDj suggested. -
I'll do the clean installation tonight as you and MRDJ suggested and will report back how things goes. Thanks.
