    Hi guys,

My original GTX 485M died on me (boots into a white screen in Windows 8) for the N-th time. Previously I would send it to the oven and could get it back working for a couple of months before it dies again.

This time, I've bought a GTX 765M from a local Clevo dealer, which was in one of their GPU suggestions list, which I specifically stated I am replacing my GPU on the P170HM3.

The GPU came yesterday and after assembling it - the notebook couldn't get past the BIOS.

It went like this (with and without my hard drive installed):
    1. Clevo BIOS splash screen (with F2 to enter Setup and F[somethingelse] to enter boot menu), pressing F2 and F[somethingelse] doesn't seem to do anything
    2. A beep after like 20-30 seconds.
    3. Another beep 20-30 seconds after the first beep.
    4. A black screen with a blinking cursor is shown, doesn't seem to respond to any key presses.

I immediately told the salesperson the GPU isn't working, and they finally told me the GPU is meant for Clevo SM series of notebooks, and would require a custom VBIOS to work with HM series of notebooks.

,,, which brought me to here... Could any VBIOS guru point me to the right direction how to solve this problem?

Those "salesmen" rarely read their mails thoroughly. That's why you always need to call them or have them confirm 2 times that the gpu CAN IN FACT WORK out of the box with an older HM series laptop.

Now, I hope the guys here (who are awesome btw) can help you out with a vbios solution.
If they cant, then you have to return the card to the place you bought it from and demand a full refund.
It was their mistake of misleading you in the first place!

Return it, it's not going to be fixed any time soon to work with the older machines.

If it's anything like the 780M a vBIOS won't fix it as the problem is also in the system BIOS...
I have made a P170HM3 BIOS for the GTX680M, which otherwise won't work on the 3D model, but even then you would loose 3D until I find the time to get it fixed, too.

I wouldn't worry on the 3D (I rarely use them anyway), just wanted to get the notebook in working condition. Is there any steps I could take to help, or should I just go all-out to persuade the salesperson to give me a full refund?

Swap for a 6 series card perhaps but yes they advised it would work when it will not.
