Can you all please list the games you've played on this beast so I can see which ones play really well?

I'll be using Vista Home Premium x32.

Are older games (2000 to 2005-ish era) upscaled nicely on this laptop? (Or is that concept just for movies? )

(How does "Clive Barker's: Undying" and "Vampire: Bloodlines" look on this laptop? Better?)

Well since you have a 9800m gt, every game available on the market will play like a dream on your laptop.

Crysis and Crysis Warhead are the ONLY games I've played on mine where I can't jack the settings and resolution all the way up.

Actually, I take that back. Dirt doesn't run that well for me but I think it's more a case of bad optimization than not enough power, as GRID runs buttery-smooth at max settings and rez along with some AA.

My laptop is having a big time with Crysis Warhead. The snowy part just runs awfully (6-15fps) except if I turn everything to Minimal (then its at like 45fps). But for other maps, everything on gamer is running great (20-35fps) at 1440x... no AA.

CoD4 max resolution, all settings to high running smoothly at 30 to 90 fps (capped at 85). Average 45-50. Just great.

I'm too lazy to figure out how to get framerates, so ... eh ;) Just played Assassin's Creed at 1680x1050 (max for me) maxed out as well for a couple of hours (gpu reached 68C :D) and other than clunkier UI than Mass Effect it ran about the same, maybe a bit better since it doesn't have the pause/loading issues Mass Effect does.

Dawn Of War runs exceptionally well, even with shadow quality set to high. Chaos Raptors fighting at 60fps is a sweet sight.

I've also been really impressed by my notebook's performance in STALKER. You will have to turn a few settings down, if you want to use the Full Dynamic Lighting. Compare that to which my Vostro's 2Ghz + 8600mGT, which couldn't manage 20fps at decent settings.

Why are they releasing games now that only let you play them if you register and play them through the Steam server?

Also, they install fully on your HDD right? And take up the same amount of space as installing other games that are non-Steam?

Anybody know which is best out of STALKER and STALKER: Clear Sky?

Hey GunSmith! Is it me or have i not seen you on for a while?

The 9800GT will be fine for everthing, the only things holding that card back are the crysis games and vista compatability issues.

OS has no bearing, keep in mind though my video card is bios flashed to 600/930/1500 speeds. The only limitation of the 32-bit OS is the fact that you'll only be paging around 3.5gb of your ram, rather than 4gb. Having said that though, COD4 isn't a ram heavy game, so it shouldn't drop FPS.

    Cat precious...
With stock clocks, you will be able to run pretty much everything on your new toy. I've run tons of different games and there are none that present a serious problem to the Nexus.

Obviously games like Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Stalker (the new one), etc... I can't really run at native resolution plus all max settings.
I run pretty much everything at 1280x800 (Which I think is quite good and does not really change aspect of your game) and max whatever I can.

Bottom line... I'm sure you will be able to run everything you throw at it. Just don't always expect to have EVERYTHING at absolute maximum settings.

In any case, amongst all the computers I have ever had, this is the one that allows me to play with the highest settings (relative to the period I got them, of course). So, this is a pretty nasty little fellow! :)

PS: I have problems running Fifa09. It lags every now and then and I really don't know why. It doesn't really puts any stress on the GPU as the temp doesnt even go above 65C while playing it... but I do have lag.

Oh... and play Mass Effect. Its a hell of a game. Yesterday I put it at Native resolution and everything absolutely maxed out and played quite nicely! :D

ill second that coment. sounds interesting.

i would highly reccomend bioshock, infernal, hitman blood money, alpha prime and not forgetting the orrange box.
you could also try attack of pearl harbour, company of heros, conflick denial ops, enemy territory quake wars, extreme condition lost planet and the best bit are they are all free demos on steam so you can try before you buy.

ok, we are going to get told off now for talking games in the wrong thread  ;)

More COD4 screenies! Loving this game

Edit: I second MrDJ's responses, especially Bioshock. While the orange box runs well on most pcs, Bioshock is pretty demanding, and runs perfectly on the M860TU

If possible could you throw up some screenshots of bioshock por favor.

Mass effect is a strange game.
Its really very good but i felt it didnt have the longevity of some other RPGs
You can choose your appearance and back story at the start of the game.
Great Graphics. Customise all weapons and armour. You have a cool little space buggy at times to hop about in.
It really worth the buy actually if yous (CAT and DJ) wanna try it out.

I've been running every game I've tried at my screen's native resolution (1680x1050) and max settings. Haven't tried any with AA, though. The newer games I've tried are COD4, The Witcher, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Bioshock and Gears Of War. They run just fine.

Deus Ex and Hitman run fine too, though Beyond Good And Evil gets lots of graphical artifacts popping up :(

On my M570RU (see sig for stats) with 32 bit XP pro I can run everything like a dream. Sure, I can't max settings in Crysis Warhead, but I can run things nearlymaxed and get good FPS. It's not like you're taking a big hit in visual detail at that point either, the game looks astounding.

Aside from Crysis, I've yet to find a game that I can't run maxed.

Keep in mind that 32 vs. 64 bit, aside from being capped at 3.5g ram (not a significant detail as of yet) has virtually no impact on gaming. A 32 bit OS would only be a detriment if the game itself was released in a 64 bit version - and IF the 64 bit version was in fact written to make full use of the 64 bit architecture. This is why it's really not a big deal to run a 64 bit os of yet. Very little software actually uses it, and there's no performance increase running 32 bit software.

It used to be that buying a gaming laptop was a pretty foolish proposition. This is not the case anymore. The pace of increased performance demands from PC gaming is slowing overall - hell, PC gaming in general is slowing. Consoles, which lead the design curve now, are far less powerful than the current set of gaming laptops, and Microsoft/Sony are not considering releasing new consoles for over 5 years.

So, yeah, your lappy is going to be running new games coming out comfortably for some time to come.

And, to repeat - in the *odd* case you can't actually max settings (Crysis) the settings you can run at still look fantastic.

I am surprised to see so many people complaing about crysis warhead.. I know i have the 9800gtx but so many people said it wasn't worth the extra money at a measly 10% or so increase in performance but that game runs like butter while on the enthusuist mode or whatever ultra is called now, i get no slow down no clipping nothing..The detail looks awesome and it is super smooth.

I have it set to 1440x900 haven't tried anything higher cause this runs and looks so f'ing good :)

If your trying to run it higher i would def recommend you try this setting it rocks on my 5796.

I'm not complaining about warhead, I'm just saying you can't max the settings (including resolution). That's not a bad thing, you can still run it looking fantastic. Personally, I prefer running it at 1680x1050 and Gamer settings, though I can run Enthusiast with lower res. UI crispness, really, I hate the slight blurring you get at non-standard resolutions (even though it's not noticeable in game - just in the UI)

As long as your TV has HDMI inputs, that's the only cable you'll need. I hear CoD4 is the greatest thing ever, so I'd play it last.

I'll be getting Dead Space within days of its release, so expect a nice performance report.

There's a note in the manual that comes with the Clevo as standard, and this states that you will not get sound through a HDMI lead if you have the 9800 GT installed. You will need to output sound through a seperate lead, according to the manual. :(

By the way.. has anybody installed and played that pretty cool zombie survival game called: Zombie Panic: Source? It's completely free, as it's a Half Life 2 modification game.

I noticed that it's now available as a download on Steam, so I tried it out.

I'm ordering the Logitech Premium notebook headset so that I can join in with the voice chat (if I am brave enough to identify myself as a girl playing online)!
There are some Americans on there who I just enjoy listening to. Not only because of the accents, but becase they are the ones who really seem to get immersed in the game, and it's amusing to hear them say things to their fellow "Survivor" teammates like: "No, leave him, LEAVE HIM! He'll turn. Leave him.... *dark whisper* just watch."

I really chuckled at that. If anybody here plays it or intends to play it, let me know.

I'd like to play on a server where there are no kids or frat boys getting excited about finding a shotgun. I hate voice chat spamming. Gives me a headache.

    Hey Gunsmith,
I have been able to play plenty of games on my machine. I use all the stock drivers and BIOS. I play COD4 with all settings maxed, Crysis with high settings, bioshock is maxed, and all those other games that I bought a few years back are obviously easily maxed. This laptop is an absolute fiend for games. I was playing Call of Duty 4 just that other day and my laptop actually started talking to me and she said "What's that Johnny? You want to play COD 4 on maxed settings? No problem.... wait, whats that? you want 6000 frames per second?!?! yes let's do that, lets give you sixty million frames per millisecond! I love playing COD4 for you! Im awesome...."
Or something like that at least... the initial shock of a talking computer made me unable to fully recall the dialogue..

But seriously I am quite impressed. It's almost god-like being able to play Devil May Cry 4 on max settings during philosophy class....

Yeah. I'm a big fan of the Half-life games and valve so i really want to play Zombie Panic. It's a mod of a mod actually because it was modded on counter-strike source. Looks hilarious.
I'll get around to playing bioshock as well as half-life if my bloody machine would arrive already.
And as for the americans on your server Cat you get the same thing on xbox live only everyone's a lot more racist.
If you like the Zombie Panic game you should check out Left 4 Dead which is made by Valve (half-life developers). It looks set to be an interesting game. http://www.l4d.com/

Left For Dead is a game I have been eagerly awaiting to buy for my Xbox 360... but I won't until I get a HDTV. I've given up trying to play games on a standard 50hz signal at the moment, as they will look amazing in HD... so I wanna wait to see them at their best. Will Left For Dead be coming out for the PC too?

Dead Space is amazing! 1680x1050 all max, and I'm always above 60fps. The in-game Vsync will lock you at 30fps and causes mouse lag, so turn it off and force the sync through the Nvidia Control Panel and you'll be locked at 60fps with no lag at all; adding some extra mouse sensitivity also helps.

    Here's a few hi-res screens:

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

This is a dark, atmospheric game with beautiful graphics. I thought Dead Space would be a test of how well the M860TU would handle the latest games as we head into 2009, and I'm happy to report that the system plays this game without breaking a sweat. I was shocked when I turned off the vsync during the intro, and the FRAPS counter shot up from 30 to 120!

I definitely say this is a must buy. Game Of The Year contender for sure.

1680:1050, ultra high, dx10, I have 25-40 FPS. We have the same comp specs. Have you tried 1680:1050?

EDIT: Try Devil May Cry 4. Everything on max, AA too (even though there is not much difference from 0 AA with 1680:1050) and it plays like a dream and the visual is gorgeous =)

Is it true that Far Cry 2 is better optimized for Widows Vista, than for Windows XP?
I have m570TU with P8400 (2.23Ghz), 2GB RAM and 9800M GT with Windows XP and in Far Cry 2 I use 1680x1050 High setting (not ulta high!) and I get 18-35 FPS (35 if I'm alone and ~25 in a fight) :(

    Huh... interesting..

I get significantly lower than that with 1680x1050..

    <starts tweaking>

What drivers are you using? I'm on 178.13

edit: updating to the 180.42 beta drivers that are said to be meant for far cry 2... hopefully those will work better.

edit #2: yeah, even with updated drivers I'm getting no where near that performance. My game goes 18 FPS if I walk around in the jungle at those settings =/.

    How significant?

I`m using 178.15. After playing the game for a while, experiencing more situations, the average fps is like 25-30 I guess. But it depends where you are and what you are doing. This average is with action and stuff =)
