I thinka they sorta tryed something which was to cover most of the hole under the laptop with blak tape which I believe is supposed to force airflow to go through near the HD location but some reseller/buyer remove it and I have not seen with and without temp. Also fabrication process of the laptop is probably mostly automated so changing the design to cool down the HD would be very expensive

Hmm, wish this was in the UK so bad :(, there were the older barebones going for 600 quid so super price, but that had the 9800m gt?

If i had it i'd work day and night on a quick fix hehe.

I say try make some paper studs for the hard drive (all around it) or put foam strips around the hardrive to try and push it off all sides of the frame, i need to get some pics of the inside of that bay, unless the HDD is running hot by default. For a 15 inch book though, this is an amazing laptop.

We're approaching a year into the M860TUs life, and there hasn't been an HDD failure yet, so I guess we'll wait and see. I don't expect to see any.

Have you tried using the 'FN' + '1'? That turns all of the fans in the laptop to full speed. That seems to work pretty well for me.
