If it's out of those two and you want the better gaming experience immediately then I vote for the Sager NP5793. It'll give the a better gaming performance off the dot though the 5797 has better upgrading potential.

I guess the NP5797 is pretty much out of the equation, doubt anyone will want to go with its base configuration especially the screen and the the GPU.

    @Gindis90

    Do you need OS pre-installed?

    Here let me help you a bit (Without OS);

    Sager NP5793

    ~Intel® T9300 from the original ~Intel® T5800

    ~ 320GB 7200RPM / 500GB 5400RPM from the original 250GB 5400RPM

Will hover around $1400 + with everything else at base configuration.

    Sager NP8660

    ~Intel® T9550 / ~Intel® P9600 from the original ~Intel® P8600

    ~ 4,096MB DDR3 from the original ~ 2,048MB DDR3

    ~ 320GB 7200RPM / 500GB 5400RPM from the original 250GB 5400RPM

Will hover around +- $1600 with everything else at base configuration.

Even with OS, ~Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit which cost $97, the NP8660 will only exceed your budget limit but a little.

Personally I would go with the NP5793 if you don't need the portability as it comes with WUXGA screen and blu-ray reader while still able to keep the price lower than NP8660 (Specification wise).

    [EDIT]

Guess I'm taking to long to post.

Anyway, the nVidia Quadro FX2700M 512MB PCI-Express DDR3 DX10 (User Upgradeable) is not a good gaming card so you might need to upgrade that.

    Sager NP8660

LCD : 15.4" WSXGA+ "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1680x1050)
RAM: 4,096MB DDR3 1066MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS) (Requires Vista 64-Bit to recognize Full 4GB
    CPU: Intel® P9600 45nm "Montevina" Core™2 Duo 2.66GHz w/6MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB 25 watt
    GPU: nVidia GeForce 9800M GTS 512MB PCI-Express DDR3 DX10 (User Upgradeable)
    HD:500GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache)
    Optical Drive : Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/Softwares

I would go with the NP5793 if I don't need to carry my notebook around and cheaper.

About the Np8660, the text is readable and if you don't watch blu-ray on it, the resolution is just right.

That's a rather general statement, I would say the NP5793 is the best for people who have limited budget and don't need the portability of an 15.4".

March is but 2 weeks away, and the GTS can't hold a candle to the 4850. I'd at least play wait and see.

    GT725-074US
    GT725-075US

The base model is like $1400, and it kills the 5793. Holding out for it is the best move for the serious mobile gamer.

I've had my 5793 , from xoticpc for a week now and even though it seems a lot of people don't like the matte screen, it looks fantastic in person ! And a blu ray player to boot, a no-brainer ! Have installed Crysis, Bioshock, Assasins Creed, The Witcher and Mass Effect and am playing Mass Effect right now and it looks and runs great ! I've owned HP, Dell and Gateway notebooks and the build quality of the 5793 make the others look like they were put together by a 3 year old using left over parts !

March is two weeks, plus at least a week to ship. That's almost a month.

glad to hear some positives about the 5793 because i am planning on getting one soon; however, can anyone list some negatives about this laptop? Portability is not an issue

    My only two complaints.

    1. Screen is great, but it could have a faster response time.

    2. The side speakers sound fine, unless you're in a more cramped space. Then the sound bounces off the objects near it and becomes muffled. (and you goes out of phase, if you're an audio tech)

Their not bad speakers though. Overall, I love this thing.

those aren't that bad for me, although im alittle confused on the speakers comment. Once I sell my xps then im jumping right on this one and it seems like a big upgrade.

Going from the 8600 to the 9800 will be like going from riding the Greyhound to taking First-Class plane rides. Good luck with your sale.
