Which do you guys prefer to have? A 15" or 17" one?

Of course bigger is better, but how's gaming with a 15"? Comparable? Or is a 17"er going to help you game a lot better (seeing more, etc.)?

I don't necessarily need a real mobile laptop, but I don't want a big bulky one either, so I'm kinda on the fence here.

15' is a good size, I think and im not sure, but 17' can hold bigger equipment, like bigger HDD and gpu n cpu. So I think you get a lot more, but a 17' is pretty large and really isn't meant to travel to class, more like between homes and lans.

I used to game on a 15" laptop. My mom's inspiron 5150, took some getting used to coming from a desktop as I found myself still 'seeing' the outer borders of the laptop frame while gaming. Eventually, I got into it.

Then I got myself a Toshiba P35 in 2004, the gaming was even better, even more involving, larger screen probably caused that.

Then in 2008, I got myself the m860tu. After 4 years of lugging around a 10lbs notebook with its huge dimensions, I figured I could compromise and get a 15 inch and still game like I used to.

Guess what, I found the m860tu just as involving as the P35 Toshiba even though it was a smaller frame. My best guess it has something to do with the screen resolution, the ability to 'see' more on screen actually causes that feeling of engagement.

So for me, it ended up not really being the size of the screen that got me into the game, but more so the resolution.

Hope this helps you in your decision. :)

I, personally, can't stand gaming on anything less than a 17" screen. Besides to fact that 17" are generally easier to equip and can store larger, better hardware, 15" are just too small to really get "into it." 17" ftw :)

    meh....15 FTW.... :D
each will have benefits over the other. while i cant have daul gpu, i dont really need it nor desire to have it yet until later.
i have the 1900x1200 rez screen, and i see things clearly and just fine.
with my smart bay option, i can have 1tb of storage available to me.
    i can have 8gb RAM, with a 64bit OS.
my unit offers binary graphics, which allows me to use internal gpu for simple stuff like surfing the web, work, and little things, assisting in longevity of the 8800gtx. (i think others are now offering this for a 15")
i also can get the following for the smartbay: xtra battery, cd/dvd, blue-ray drive, additional storage. (AW specific for now)

ultimately, the 17 may be benficial if you want a larger screen, but my pixel numbers are the same you can get on a 17. then portability comes into play. the 17 will be more cumbersum, heavier, and so on.

    good luck....but i vote 15

In my opinion 15.4 is the perfect compromise between portability and power. Having said that I have only used 17'' screens very briefly from testing display demos. I did not ever purchase them because they were too big.

    I love my 17" laptop.

I am looking to get the 18.4" new clevo one when it comes down in price a bit.

I'll never go back to small screen hehe. This is my first 17" laptop after having used many 15" and 14.1" laptops.

I carry a 15-20 pound backpack everyday to and from work and wherever I go, and have never regretted it once.

Now... if you are going to take it to a place where you don't have AC power, that is a different story.

15.4" is the max I would carry around, especially to class. You look like a tool with anything bigger.
