Anybody here own the Sager 5797 with the Geforce 280m(I currently have one on order through Pc Torque)?....Just wondering if there is any overheating issues..And does the Artic Silver 5 High Performance Thermal Compound do a good job? If there is overheating issues, any ideas on how to overcome them?

    Thanks in advance...KY_BULLET

No overheating far as I can tell and I've been playing supcom and crysis demos on high settings.

Really it's not the graphics card or any other part of the system that I can tell really puts off heat... it's the darn wireless card slightly to the right of the audio jacks. Turn that off and you'll probably not notice much heat difference at all.

It's not hurting the system, but it's the main source of "feelable heat" around.

I'm on page 6 of my review on my system, hopefully have some time to finish the other 1/2 to 2/3rds tomorrow.

KY_BULLET: if you want to replace the original thermal compound of your video card or cpu go with Arctic Cooling MX-2 is newer then AS5 and its much better

If memory serves OCZ Freeze is based on the same compound. This should give an estimate of what to expect.

Here were my before and after results, Artic Silver 5 vs OCZ Freeze.

    CPU: X9100 @3192 MHz 1.15v
    Ambient Temp: 23c

    Tested using StressPrime Large FFTs
Temps were read using CoreTemp 0.99.5.20
Artic Silver 5 had a 2 month Curing time.

    Artic Silver 5
    Idle: 27c
    After 10 Minutes: 101c
    High Temp Reached: 104c

    OCZ Freeze
    Idle: 27c
    After 13 Minutes: 76c
    High Temp Reached: 78c

I should also note these were measured using a Zalman ZM-NC2000 notebook cooler. Small FFTs produced similar results, a difference of 11c.

I have seen numerous tests of AS5 vs. other compounds. Some tests show no real difference between AS5 and other compounds, others show noticeble difference, others very small differences which in the end makes me believe that the major difference might be in the way it is applied rather in the compound itself.

I have applied AS5 two times to my GPU.

After the first application there was very little difference between the stock thermal paste and AS5 temps. After I had to apply it the second time, it is even cooler the temperatures dropped by a about 5C. I have no real idea why, maybe because at the second application I cleaned the GPU much much better and because the layer on AS5 was better applied.

i'm using AS5 from very long time then when was released MX-2 i make some test with both and in my opinion MX-2 is better one

67 degrees full load for the GPU

cpu hovers around 25-35 on idle.. with one core being about 7-8 degrees away from the other

    wierd. messed up paste application?

your temps are fine... no need to do anything else but to continue monitoring the temps.

    thats normal.

temp sensors (per core) on the CPU are not located in the exact same spot.

my difference in cores is about 12C degree right now.... sometimes even goes as far as 19C difference.

souroull: maybe because one handle more process then other you can download program for process control so that both cores working 50-50 but on my XPS M1710 with T7600G of the the cores is always few deg. more then the other

Running super cool on the Zalman while ~72F ambient. Overvolted and overclocked 625/1625/1000, and after a few hours of Far Cry 2:

Very similar to my temps at stock. Although your HD is oddly cooler.

Max temps - Same order as yours, no cooler.

Were you running the wireless card the whole time or
using something else? Curious cause it produces a fair amount of heat.
