Hi !
I have written this email (below) to PCMW about their XR5...
Do anyone still experience this kind of problem ??
Thanks a lot

Hi,
I'm writing to you to know if you're aware of system performance decrease over time (vista 64bits).
My computer runs very fast after booting (windows open immediately) but after some time (1 or 2 hours) the performances decrease quite a bit (windows open more slowly) etc...
In the event viewer there is a lot of warning about this... I include a copy below...
I have the XR5 for one month now, with all drivers updated, all maintenance done (with a special software etc), but nothing to do... One month without change.. Apart from this the laptop runs great !
Is it a vista issue ? Or should I uninstall and reinstall ??
Have you experiences this kind of issues with your XR5s ??
Thank you very much for your answer !
Regards

not too sure whats going on, could be any of the following:
1) laptop overheating: when it does this, the cpu and gpu cuts its performance to keep cool.
2) you have a virus/ spyware
i dont think its vista problem, maybe its hardware? if its under warranty see about getting a replacement maybe. -
Did you try to remove all dust that has been building up inside the notebook?
-
Virus or dust built up.
My money is on the virus bit. -
vista sux, I am only going to use XP, and if everyone follows suit. or atleast 80% it will die like HD DVD.
and they will keep supporting it.
in fact at the corp i work. we told the company we order the pc's from to give us XP instead of Vista on over 120 pcs. and there has been mega corps doing the same.

You could try tuning up Vista before you format:

I'm surprised how responsive it is after doing all that. Almost as fast as XP. XP is still more stable in my personal experience. -
And far better gaming-wise.
Tested and prooved in so many occasions... -
Your copy of Vista is getting stale. BUY A NEW ONE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!
If i were you I would do a full system scan for spyware, adware, etc. -
I had that problem. Just take out the unnessary programs that are running in the background.
-
Oh, wait, I thought you said "useless" not "unnecessary" - my bad.
-
"Vista is like Paris Hilton, nice looking on the outside, but ugly and vile on the inside" - Moon Angle i think said that
-
I have Vista.
I play games on it.
I like it.
There are, without a doubt, situations where XP is a better solution. However, people should stop dissing Vista just because it's not the best for them (or worse: just because "they heard it was bad"). -
Hi everybody,
thanks a lot for all your answers..
It's definitely not a virus or spyware, I have scanned the whole system... I have not too much programs or services as the problem seems to come only after one or two hours of running.
This is the response from PCMW I received yesterday

We should have a bios update within the next 1-2 weeks, so this might solve your issues.
This could also be a software related problem and require a re-installation of Windows Vista or you might try a system restore from within the control panel to restore the system to an earlier stage to see if this helps.
Thank You,

So I definitely think it's vista-related. I will wait for the sp1 release and new bios and see if it helps... and then I will do a reinstall of vista if no improvement
so my new question.. to reinstall vista, simply insert the cd and choose reinstall ??
Regards from Switzerland, -
If it's the BIOS, I doubt it's vista related

Hi !
How about XR5's owners (sager np 9262 or clevo d901c) ?
Nobody is here ? Do you experience this problem ?
Thank you very much ! -
); further, I don't have Vista on any of my systems, and I haven't had the ... pleasure ... of using it on a long-term basis; however, from my limited experimentation/use with Vista, it introduces a few new bugs, a few new annoyances, but basically affords about the same useful functionality as XP does while consuming significantly more resources. In my book, that is a step back, not a step forward, and is a legitimate ground for critizing Vista.
To put it into perspective, if this had happened with a service pack to XP instead of on a "new" OS that was supposed to supersede XP, these things would have been completely unacceptable. I am at a loss to see why they become more acceptable because they're caused by a new OS instead of a mere service pack. -
I hate vista
I play games on XP PRO or 2003 Server
2003 server I can use 4gb ram and use 32bit games/drivers/applications
I will never use vista -
I noticed a similar problem, although I don't think it was as significant as stated in this thread. I found that my pagefile was set to 4096mb (way too much), so I changed it to 1024mb. I have not seen any slow downs since then. But I don't think I had the same problem, I just noticed a lot of harddrive accessing the longer I was on my computer.

Could be because, ever since I stopped programming, I don't use my system to the fullest anymore =)
And you're right (from what I've read): there are enough grounds to critise Vista.
Maybe we shouldn't be so forgiving, but we're just to good to hold it against the companies who use us as a test case
Like I've said before: I can see situations where XP is to be chosen over Vista, and I can see situations where it is the other way around. I don't have problems with people choosing XP, nor with people choosing Vista. I do however have a problem with people who are bashing one or the other without anything vaguely resembling an arguement. As dexgo did in the post above (sorry dexgo: I'm sure you're a nice guy despite you hating Vista =) ) -
Well, then, I suppose we're in agreement - reasonable minds can disagree on the preference of Vista versus XP. So, other than sorting out actual, specific issues (e.g., BSOD with code such-and-such), hashing out which is "better" is a largely pointless (and soon to be moot) endeavour, no?
-
And especially since Vista will get more and more adopted, whether it sucks or not ... just because M$ is pushing it
General system performance decrease
