Should I pay an additional $110 to get a spare battery so that I can bring to class and switch it when the other battery run out. Is there any problem with that? How heavy is the battery?

Hmm yeah I didn't really think about that.....here's to hoping the majority of Messiah's classrooms have lots of outlets around the room, haha.

Yes, you should purchase an extra battery if you intend to buy a laptop with 2 hours of battery life. I'd highly recommend you opt for this option. The battery is around a pound.

What if you get the P9500 (25W) CPU and HD3870 GPU? Would you expect longer battery life?
It would be great if Sager/Clevo offered AMD's Platform as an option, for those who are looking for decent battery life and a great gaming experience...

    Privet Cossack,

First of all love the color and the flair of your Avatar. Seems like you know about the ATI Mobility Radeon HD3870 with 512MB GPU ... so, help me out please ...

Q: Do you think that HD3870 will run "Cooler" than NVIDIA GPU? Alos, would it have a more Stable and Low IDLE temps ... when you are not running ANY Applications whatsoever?

    Spasibo,
    G! :)

Or maybe an external battery (assuming they are compatible) which is slightly heavier but it would save the hassle to switch off / change the battery / switch on again

why not get the 17in sager? for the price youre paying for the extra battery you could get the same or better config with a better battery life. including the spare battery the 860tu would equal the weight of the 17in too.

Thanks. I changed my Avatar recently to something more patriotic. :)

In terms of GPU, I would assume that the ATI Mobility Radeon HD3870 512MB will run cooler. I have a desktop with an ATI GPU and it runs cool and quiet! ;)

It also seems that they have a great deal on this graphics card. You get the HD3870 as standard when you customize on XoticPC. For the 9800GT and the 9800GTS, you have to pay more...

For some reason, the HD3870 will appear later on...

Can anyone confirm what the battery life will be, or do we have to wait for the reviews? Eurocom says 1.5 hours, while Powernotebooks has it at 2-2.5 hours. If I can stretch it out to 2.5-3 hours running only Word with all the Vista stuff turned off and brightness down to minimal, I just might go with the 8660. Silent Mode also looks interesting...

Awhile back I had gotten a 17" dell with a spare battery and found that I never used the spare except when I brought it on a plane. If you are in need of extra run time and don't have an outlet nearby, then by all means, go for the 2nd battery.

Also, I'm sure you're aware of using the hibernation feature to quickly swap out the battery.

Btw: I don't suppose any of you had the Inspiron E1705 with the Go 7900gs? Mine crapped out about 5 months after the warranty was over. That's why I'm looking to get the 5796...
